Your reasoning is why I stopped buying BMWs, they went from the austere to the bells and whistles approach in the 80s. It's why I ordered my 93 Jeep Cherokee Sport with 4 doors, wings (vent windows) and no power windows, nothing that could break.
In contrast everytime it rains or is foggy all the warning lights come on in my 06 Ford Expedition. I usually keep a car forever, give it away and buy a new one.
