Then you've made wise choices. Pontiac, not so much...they could only sell half of the cars they built at the end.
Best choice I ever made was marrying the right woman, 30 years this June!
Remember all of GM was lost at that time and their domestic model line was ridiculous. Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, GMC, Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac! 8 franchises was insane.
GM actually should have terminated every line except Chevrolet and Cadillac. The 2-line has proven successful for most manufacturers. Ford/Lincoln, Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, VW/Audi etc.
By keeping Buick they are also forced to keep GMC trucks because most Buick dealers need GMC and cannot survive as a stand alone Buick franchise.
Chrysler took a different approach when they replaced the Dodge trucks brand with the RAM brand this enabled any Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep dealer to pickup the RAM franchise and sell trucks instead of just Dodge dealers.
