I liked the M1 carbine too.Fun and reasonably effective with softpoints at close range.I never had an M1 Garand unfortunately, but I have shot an FN-FAl.It was a good rifle.
I did have an M14 which was great.I also loved the Swedish Ljungman 6.5x55, it was the most accurate semi-auto I ever had but they had jams apparently.I never had mine jam but it didn't have any rough or prolonged use.
