You put a "P" Pad on the back fender and weld some footpeg brackets on for your passengers safety and comfort. That rear most fender bracket can become a sissy bar very easily, add some bags and go for your two up, extended putt.

Yes Ryk, but that's standard equipment on the Speedy/America.
I have a solo seat on mine, but if I want to carry a passenger it takes 2 minutes to attache the rear seat. That isn't an option with the bobber it's extra, whether or not accessories will be available , or DIY.
And,the speculation I've heard on what the Bobbers price will be,I reckon they should at least provide that option .OR do my preferred option,a 1,200cc America or Speedy

This Bobber will probably be marketed just as the Steve McQueen and Newchurch Bonny models were, very random distribution and instant collector status for those in the right place at the right time along with the disposable income to buy one. Triumph will either give us some cruiser love and respect or they won't. We would get more action by writing letters to Hinckley, than going on and on about it here. For the record, a 1200 cc America or Speedy would suit me just fine and a bobber with it s limitations as to hauling luggage and necessary kit does not. Without a backrest option, this bike looks like L-2, L-3 misery to me, and I won't volunteer to go there anyway.

Yep.It'd suit me too.
I called Hinckley 3 times and a big Triumph dealer in Sydney once too, before the Bobber was released to ask, beg, plead, with them to make a 1200cc cruiser but just got some guys office and an answer machine each time.I left my thoughts saying I knew a lot of folks wanted a 1200 cruiser but heard nothing.Didn't expect to really I was just putting the thought, wishes out there

The trick is getting the message to the right people, when you don't have a name and position address, sadly, you have to carpet bomb and hope you connect. You can always address to "head of marketing, USA", "Head manager of R&D", "el Presidente of Triumph", hell I don't know. Just to be in the spirit, I'll send off a few myself. Corporate entities are a public record with a published list of officers, maybe I can find the fish we want to talk to.

One might think Triumph knows of this site and are lurking around in behind the chesterfield.

Until someone builds a 1200 America or Speedmaster and gets it into Bike EXIF or a feature on Pipeburn, probably both really, the call will go unheeded.

Well, I rang Hinkley again and got to speak to a person this time called James.Nice bloke by the sound of him anyway.I told him how a lot of us around the world were itching for a 1200 cruiser and I thought Triumph may sell quite a few if they introduced one.I said that I knew he couldn't comment on specific models but had they released all the new models for the moment. He said he thought there were a couple of new models still to come next year but as far as he was aware they weren't cruisers although he did say he wasn't far enough up the pecking order to know for sure.He said he would see my thoughts would be passed on.
The call only cost a couple of bucks so if a few of us did it, or as Ryk says wrote a letter who knows? I looked for an e-mail address but couldn't see any except for warranty work.I mentioned this forum and RAT.He knew of RAT but didn't seem to recall us here.
Anyway that's it for what it's worth.I think ten minutes and a couple of bucks for the cause is worth it.

I talked to the new Brisbane Australia South Side Manager over on the other channel and he said he couldn't say officially but there were still some"exciting" models to come besides the bobber.

I just doesn't make sense to me they would drop the America/SM line, unless however, they were loosing massive amounts of money. Sadly, bottom line trumps all in big corporations.

It could just be simple assembly time efficiency issues, trying to spread the timeline along more than a dozen models while only producing 50K units per year. Unfortunately it makes sense to drop models that don't sell in high numbers. Just a guess, mind you, but it's why Ford is moving their small auto production elsewhere...lack of close-in sales.

I can't argue with that because that's how you stay in business.

Got this off the Thunderbird site.

"Well was talking to the Triumph Dealer Rep today and he told me that Triumph has officially scrapped all the cruisers except the R3. They also scrapped the Daytona and Touring. Classics, Adventure and Street Triple will remain, everything else gone. All bikes will be assembled in Thailand going forward. Sounds like Triumph isn't doing too well. Your TBird may become a collectable some day! And oh by the way the Wholesale value (Auction Value) of a 2010 TBird SE low miles mint condition is $3,000 USD or less."

And from a UK memeber:

"I heard from a good source that the R3 is finished.... as is the Trophy !!!!. A replacement for the R3 is on the books."

I had heard months ago that the D675 was finished. But, without photos, everything is BS...

True. They don't tell dealers that much more then us. And if the Cruiser line is scrapped, what about the Bobber? Isn't that a cruiser off shoot?

Yes, the bobber is a cruiser, a SM replacement in my book. And I think a 900 motored two up will come out to replace the BA.

Might be time to pick up a second America/speedy I've been thinking about as a second option if they didn't bring out a 1,200.

I went to my dealer yesterday and talked to the owner. He seems to think that there will be a Speedmaster and America he says that probably the Thunderbird line is either going to be thinned or eliminated with exception of the Thunderbird storm. He also said that they're going to keep the Trophy because I heard on another site that they're going to get rid of it. Sometimes I don't think they know anymore than we do but it's something. My son who rides a'02 TBA test road a Bonnie T120 and said he wasn't that impressed. He wants a Speed Triple R.

I hope so...given my own experience with a Thunderbird LT, this is a deeply flawed engine.
OK so I might have been unlucky ( I usually am unlucky mechanically)but I think this engine should be buried in an unmarked grave.

Also meant to say that a 1200 TBA would be logical.....I'd want one and so would many many others. Can't understand why the factory is so silent on the subject.

I've owned 2 Thunderbirds a 1600 and currently a Commander 1700. Never had a problem with either. I completed a 5,000 mile trip to the south east from Tulsa to Key West and back this past September. My Commander never missed a beat. Smooth as silk. I love the bike and engine. The engine was designed to get good gas mileage. I get the exact same mileage I got w my TBA w loads more torque and power. When ever I ride 2 up there's no noticeable loss in power like on my TBA. Also a side benefit was I paid the exact same insurance premium. What's not to love?

Just my 2 cents but I don't think Triumph will limit the new 1200 engine to just 3 models - Bonnie, Thruxton and Bobber.
Another thought is they have introduced the Street Twin monicker on the 900's which could imply the introduction of the iconic Speed Twin name with a 1200 engine like the did on the Street and Speed Triples.
But then again, that space has already been taken by the 1200 Bonnie ... or has it?
Just my imagination working overtime.
Still, I don't think they'll limit the 1200 engine to 3 variations. They'll milk it.

I have been doing some reading on the new models and Triumph is promoting a over 150 accessories for each model. So maybe they will drop the names America and Speedmaster and come out with a single model called a Cruisemaster and then sell the accessories to customize the look.

Hell I don't know. My bests guess is they are saving the best till last and we will see the new models next March or April.

After going to Chicago this past weekend and getting to see an sit on the Bobber it is a different bike. It actually looks better in person. When you see it running and moving with a person in the seat it is a much better presentation.
It seemed smaller than I would have thought for a 1200cc. With 80 hp it is going to rip up the pavement.

It is still not my cup of tea, but it is a nice bike.
