It stands for Birmingham Small Arms and they STILL make guns ... though now they're air rifles.
I thought they made shotguns too but apparently not.
Every so often I look at getting a BSA to tinker with in the garage but then I realise I never seem to have time 
And I go to a local café where bikes gather and the old boys turn up on their Nortons, Matchless and BSAs and when they all bugger off, the car park is awash with oil !
