Here is a stupid thought. Do you have a tach? Watch for the RPM at which the limiter kicks in. Unplug the speedo, and see if it still cuts out at that RPM. If is, it is not a gauge deal, which I highly doubt it would be anyways. It is most likely an ECU setting.
