...motorcycles, that is.

On one of my runs down to Phoenix the other day with this little part-time shuttle driver gig I've had for a couple years now, I counted 7 of 'em in 4 separate sightings. And, I think the last Triumph I saw on the streets and highways around here must have been at least two weeks ago or so, and it was a lone rider astride a Bonneville of perhaps a 2005 model year.

And so, I wonder what the present sales figures might be of these two "heritage brand" of motorcycles?

(...I'm talking about the USA sales figures here that is, as I'm fairly sure Triumph's worldwide figures would surpass those of the recently revived Indian brand)

Yep, they sure are, Ade!

I keep lookin' at that latest Springfield model, which is kind of their version of the Harley Road King with the quick release windshield and hard bags and a little steeper fork angle for sharper handling, and sayin' to myself, "I sure do like the thought of ownin' THAT baby!"

(...yep, nice lookers they be, alright!)

The big ones but with the scout I think they missed the mark a bit.Especially with the humongous radiator. Then agai Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.

Yeah, gotta kind'a agree with ya about the Scout's looks, Paul.

But, and I don't know if you've seen a pic of this custom-built Flat Track-style Scout yet, if Polaris would offer up something similar to this from the factory in a Street Tracker guise, it might sell a bit...

It doesn't look TOO bad I guess, but not my taste.
My America is the first bike I ever had that I said "this is great as is."Every other I've ever owned I thought "well,I'll just change this or just change that" I did put a Corbin seat on.

I was at the Indian dealer yesterday, I noticed that the Victory line has gotten a lot more aggressive. Very modern looking new models and colors. I think having the Indian brand cover the "heritage"aspect has let Polaris go modern hot rod with the Vic's. Looks like a win win for Polaris.

Dwight, I did not see any of the big Indians at Barber yesterday, I saw a new Scout and a few original Springfield built plus one heavily customized modern bottletop. I really expected to see a few of the big Polaris Indians and I was surprised they weren't in evidence.
That said, both of my brothers have turned in their HDs for new Roadmasters and are really pleased with the bikes; they just did a lap around Washington state along the Columbia and over the Cascades and the pictures were fantastic. Up close the bike's fit and finish is top notch and it seems Polaris has really taken the engineering seriously.

I haven't personally seen this yet but I can see it and it would be a very good thing for Polaris allowing them to push the envelope with Victory and maybe getting a very big success. Also a good idea to make sure the two brands are very differentiated so you don't see a new Indian as a polaris knock-off.

That is the one thing Polaris did right. They made a totally new engine/driveline for Indian. Victory and Indian will never look the same.

A few years now and I have not heard of any weaknesses in that 111 motor from Polaris.

In San Antonio I will see Indian 6-1 over Triumph. I have no idea where they all are. I saw many more Triumphs on the road 05-09 than I do now. Did the owners just park em?

Holy TBA Batman! Got curious and found this in the dealership as new. 2+ years old and sold as new. That looks like a problem. Look toward the bottom of the page. Lots of old stock.

In my area prices on used Triumph cruisers are very low, while prices on Bonneville and Thruxton models are very high. I believe when people hear Triumph, Bonneville is what comes to mind, not a cruiser. I think that is why Trump is playing to their strength with the new motor going to the hot sellers 1st.

Second hand prices for Americas/Speedys are low here too.IMO when Triumph went from the 790cc motor they should have got to 1,000cc+ but still no 1200cc cruiser from Triumph that I can see.As you say they're concentrating on the Bonneville.
I'm old enough to remember when 1200cc Harleys were the biggest displacement bikes made and a 650cc Triumph was a big bike.

Does the Thunderbird not count because it's 1600/1700cc?

I'm talking about the days before Hinkley Triumphs.
For me a T-bird is too wide and too heavy.A 1200cc or any 1000cc plus engine in a Speedmaster/America would fit me just right. If I had two good knees a bird would be ok, or the new 1200 Bonnie too but I like cruisers.

Well you said still no 1200cc cruiser so I was curious if you meant that specific liter plus but under a liter and a half class. I get the weight issue totally because like you my knees are suspect now.

I was hoping Triumph would put the new 1200cc engine in an America/Speedy size package and I was hoping they'd release it at the Cologne motor show but so far no sign of that.So yea under 1500cc although it's the size/weight of the bike I'm concerned about.A 1200cc version of the America /Speedy would be about the perfect package for me I reckon.Having said that, my America does what I need, but "More Power!" in the words of "Tim the Toolman"would be nice

I have that same hope. I have been looking at the Tbird LT and the R3T, but am waiting for the new America before making a decision. I plan on converting my 2005 America to a solo ride.

I had an R3 for 5 years and I've ridden an R3T.
If I was buying another (and I've been looking ...), I'd get an R3 and buy panniers / screen / cupholder etc to make an R3T (and budget for rear tyres lasting 3,000 miles).
Ooh, ooh - stick a batwing fairing on and fit a stereo !!
I'm not the first to say the R3T doesn't ride as nicely as an R3

Oh my word, The R3 Roadster is simply exhilarating. The Roadster has the pegs in a more "standard" position which to me makes for a more balanced and confidence inspiring ride for the big beast.
I've ridden both the R3 Standard and the Roadster but never the R3 Touring, which is really a different ride.
I do believe the R3 standard is no longer available.
A low mileage 2015 Rocket3 X is the ticket

One thing about the R3's, she's not the prettiest girl at the dance but once you get her alone, well she will do things the others cant.

Indeed, the RIII Roadster is an absolute thrill to ride, and ridiculously comfortable with those mid pegs.

Triumph and Polaris/Victory/Indian have never been forthcoming with exact production numbers.

That being said, I would guess that Indian is selling at least 15,000 machines a year already in the US. I see them on a very regular/daily basis.

Springfields are said to be the best handlers especially slower turning. fenders are growing on me but prefer a traditional style. all but the scout are way $$$$ as are any parts + wearable items!!
