The old front sprocket was just a solid 19T where a former owner had replaced the 18T. No rubber surround like the factory unit.

Ryk, I used the same alignment method of laying a steel ruler across the face of the rear sprocket and lining up the chain to match, that's always worked well in the past. And, a tight kinked link was what had me swap out the chain to begin with.
The front sprocket is substantially lighter than the old one, I might try swapping back next week for a short ride just to see if that's it.
