I would start with a heat gun and a Brass scraper to get the majority off. Goof Off cleaner should dissolve the rest of the residue, when the pipe is cooled off. Then polish with the method you usually use. I use dirt cheap, Wadding Metal Polish, works just as good as the high priced spread. Careful with the Goof Off, it will soften up powdercoat and destroy paint.
