That happened to me with my 02TBA. If I remember right I took an exact-o knife and tried to carefully scrape as much as I could away and finished with Mother' stainless steel and chrome polish. There were some minor scratches but not real noticeable. There 's no easy way to do it and it will probably never be quite like new again. Sorry.
