50 mile range shouldn't be a problem for them since the rest of the miles would be on a trailer anyway.

I'm guessing the range is so short because the noise generator uses a lot of power. After all, it can't be a Harley if it's not the loudest thing on the road.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

ya got that right, I wandered of course Saturday and when I came to I found myself in a large HD dealership. Kids and massive sized men with arm loads of T-shirt were walking all over each other.
I slowed down to look at a new 1200 Sporty they had converted to an "off road" bike. Complete with knobby tires, a chain and sprocket kit, along with a two into one exhaust about 12" long.
Before I could I say, shazam the sales bot fired up this machine and started twisting the throttle to and fro.
Sounds bad ass don't you think, as the roof rafters were vibrating!
I'm like holy shat, shut that thing off.

I really want to test ride an electric. I know the range is low and the absorbed cost of R&D is very high but I lust for the instant constant torque. It just has to be magnificent. That feeling of power...

the range is so short because of the lead acid batteries. Its the only way to do an electric for the HD customer base, got to stay traditional.
05 speedmaster - 1100cc, 11:1 racing pistons, Carillo rods, thunderbike cams, ported and polished head, 2mm over intake and exhaust valves, Barnett kevlar clutch, scepter pipes, oversize manifolds, 45mm HSR's, TTP stage 4 firestarter

It's not crazy crazy though. Choppers with peanut gas tanks probably do< 100.

True but a fill up is fast and redily available, a charge up not so much.

Things are changing quickly, Victory's electric bike did very well at the Pikes Peak race. At least Harley has a good looking design, add a couple more batteries and the Hipsters will eat them up.

Not the harley and not for the hipster but i have wondered what a down-and-dirty electric chopper would be like. There has to be a kid somewhere with a rolling chassis and a dream. Surely the 200 pounds of a standard motor and support parts would be enough to slap in electrics. It would accelerate like h*ll from bar to bar!

I could see them as a way back and forth to work in an urban setting but with such a short range not for most riders.( I mean people who really ride, 300 miles on a Sunday is nothing for me.)

If I was looking at Elec I'd be looking seriously at Zero!! Good range , good warranty and pretty decent charge time options.

My 1974 Sportster had a 2.25 gallon tank.Not the best for Aussie conditions in 1974.I couldn't get 120 miles without a fill up!
