Carbide Precipitation, common to the lower grades of 300 series Stainless, from exposure to heat. For a few measly dollars more, the exhaust manufacturers could use ELC (extra low carbon) Stainless, and you'd wonder where the Yellow went. Still beats Chrome plated Steel in every way. The insides of Steel exhaust systems absorb Carbon from exhaust gases until it becomes something known to some as "no longer Steel". Same thing that transpires inside Gas and Coal fired Boilers, which I have dealt with up close and personally.
