My first street bike, and first bike in 15+ years. copied and pasted from the CL ad--"forward controls, new tires, exhaust with stage one modifications,19 tooth counter shaft sprocket for better highway performance". 9000 miles on the clock. I tried on a dozen or so other bikes, including 4-5 Harley's. This one just felt right.I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of dumb questions in the following weeks,be gentle.

Looks like you are off to a good start with that bike. Wade will like it. He has a thing for red. Welcome to the Merry Go Round. 2002 so you got the Bonneville America original.

We all know , the only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked! So don't you hesitate to ask!! Welcome to the mad house of the best people on the web. Do you know 02 is a special yr to have? It's the first yr, after that they dropped the Bonneville from the name and just called the America, annnnd the factory burnt so there is a limited number of 02s . Just a little trivia about your bike that if you didn't know I felt as if you should.
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

First dumb question: What are the two black rubber plugs on the chrome piece that sits on top of the gas/petrol tank? The one on the right looks like it could be for an OBD.
Second dumb question: There is a button just above the start button that says TRIUMPH. Is this where the cruise control would be if it had it?

Here's a dumber question what's an OBD? On Board Device? Ordinary Belt drive? Obese Body Deodorant?Over Board Diver?
I think I was told those plugs are for plug in phone chargers and the like but needed to be wired up?

On my Red 02 the plugs are for auxilary switchs, If you go with the extra driving lights the switch goes in one of the spots. I don't know what the 2nd hole is for. I just had a thought,Duh,under the passenger seat is a little door that opens up and you may find the bikes owners manual slipped in there, I found my virginal manual in there after owning the bike 2 years. Great hiding place!

I don't think our older bikes have OBD capability's. The new fuelie bikes may have OBD but the carb bikes don't.

There's the same question on the RAT forum but I can't remember what the answer was ! I'll go and look it up and come back and edit this Ok,According to the guys on RAT, apparently the left side has something to do with an adjuster for the clock if one is installed. The other one is apparently something for an alarm system if one's fitted. I don't know I'm just repeating what was said there.

I think those plugs (on the instrument console and the throttle handle) are for the UK versions. Not used in NA.
I think OBD is On Board Diagnostics.
I added a USB plug to mine, but didn't see anything on line where I could add something in those plugs.

How did you add the usb plug? is it for charging your phone/GPS?

Someone told me the rubber plug on the right is to install a Framastanner but not knowing where to find one I ignore it. Great looking ride, enjoy.
