Just a heads up about a Pure One 14612 , DON' T use it. Got one for my daughter's Bonneville and one for the Speedy. Both filters would not seal and if you don't catch it, oil will dump out. We had some talk about the changes in the mounting plate a while back, now I see it. Got one for Lola a year ago and it's fine. The new style mounting plate is convex and will bottom out on the engine before the gasket seals. Just a heads up, maybe that part number should be removed from the vault.

She lost just one quart, hubby caught it, I lost 3/4 of a quart. But still at 10.00 a quart and the aggravation factor, it just sucks. Advance Auto listed that filter as the correct one.

Dang, I've been using that filter forever and just bought one. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check it out before I change the oil; maybe I'll have to take it back.
Update edit: yup, the filters are not the same construction. [image]http://s411.photobucket.com/user/ebturner3/media/image_zpsomt7rjnj.jpeg[/image] The new filter is domed where the old filter is dished, that must account for the leakage others have experienced. I'll be returning this one. That kinda sucks because the filtration specs on PureOne are so much better.
You'll have to cut and paste the link, this forum software does not support jpeg and that's what Photobcket uses.

Yeah, if it's domed up at all it won't work.

I seem to remember there was a slightly longer version (PureOne) that fit our bikes as well, I wonder if they also changed the config. on those? I don't remember the part number, but I may have one kicking around my shop, I'll certainly take a look. I've already stocked up on some of those expensive Mahle ones, darn it.

Mahle makes a fine filter, would you share the part number?

The alternate slightly longer PureOne filter is #PL14459, unsure if it has changed configuration or not. The current Mahle filter is # OC575, it's a small bodied little guy, so heads up, if that is going to bother you..

It shouldn't bother, as the OC575 is a very well made filter.

When I run out of PureOnes in my shrinking stash, that's my new filter of choice. And I thought Purolator was in business to sell filters, I guess that's what what happens when you make it to the big time.

I was wondering what was a good one out there. What is the size of the filtration?b What is the surface area of the medium? Where to buy?

Rock Auto has them for $5. From what I could read the filters are well regarded for their construction and pleat design; and it seems like the common micron spec is 32. That's a bit bigger than the Pure 20 but well below the K&N 50. 32 is dead in the middle of the big end spec according to the book.

Some PureOne filters have a 40 micron spec; I think the PL14612 is one of them.

I as going from memory so I could easily be wrong; the 14610 (about an inch longer) is 21. I haven't used either of those '10s on my shelf because I think they project into the danger zone.

I thought I posted this earlier but I don't see it on here.I normally use the Napa Gold and the filtration is 21 microns as is Wix. I don't remember the surface area of the medium anymore.

I have read that before too. Things change, some move to different manufacturers and others change materials, etc...

I use the Amsoil oil filter on both of my bikes. It is rated at 15 microns at 97.3% efficiency and 10 microns at 80% efficiency. Like the oil is it rated for 12,000 miles or 1 year.

Now I use Mobil one M108 filter. I got the news about the Pur filter a long time ago, on this site. It's good to keep up with new items.
