Interesting history there Chad.I was told that spiral staircases in castles are made so as to allow right handed men to use their swords defending the stairs more easily coming down.
As I used to tell my friends in Europe and the U.S.,
"You may drive on the right side of the road, but we drive on the CORRECT side of the road"
