So I was out with Emma tonight. It was 31 degrees. As we sat in our nice warm 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee I was looking at the guy on the moped in front of me. Do you ever feel like a wimp as we complain about riding in cold weather when these mopeds are out there everyday?

Hi, my name is Derek. I was riding my Moped tonight and it was 31 degrees and I saw this couple in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was nearly hypothermic but noticed that they just sat there, sipping their lattes and eating chocolate truffles. I think they were talking about me, so I rode home, thawed out and began to write a cowboy song.

Dear Derek,

I could not tell if it was a red moped or a green moped?

Sincerely,

William

Dear Derek. Give up your aspiring country music career. There is nothing sadder than a wannabe cowboy on a moped. Especially if you refer to your ride as your "steed". Perhaps you can switch to rap. Seriously, consider it. Your friend, Rich.

Until now I was unaware just how demented we are here.

I mean I knew we were slightly off, riding a Triumph proves that, but I didn't know it was this bad!

Good stuff Wade. I do think you are a little obsessed with the " Yak fur thong and immigrant song" though! It crops up often in your raps!

I find that as I grow older my temp range has gone up, no more is 38degrees my cut off point, now it's more like 50. Who knows, a couple more years and I may be riding a Gold Wing in Florida. God's waiting room.

I'm training for a marathon, and had a 20 mile run scheduled a couple of weeks ago. It was 29 degrees when I left the house, but it felt good after a few miles. Came home, cleaned up and took the bike out. Lasted about 20 minutes, and went back home. 31 is too cold for me to be on a bike.

So this is the mental effect of cold weather and not enough ride time. Me and my imaginary friend are going out in the garage and sit on the Triumph and pet the chrome.

On the serious side, there is a really big difference between riding a moped at 15 to 20mph in 31º weather and a motorcycle at 80 in 31º weather.

A friend's wife once had a mink jock strap made for him as a Christmas gift. Maybe Wade's on to something here.

And 31 degrees isn't so bad at 23 mph.

OK one serious question.

You are riding down the road on your America in a fur lined thong and a helmet of course you pass an oncoming moped. The guy on the moped waves. Do you wave back or keep petting your thong?

Did a couple of hundred miles today on the bike. Sunny and 45 degrees at 60 mph. Gawd, I love my heated gear! And as far a the yak fur thong thing. There's no way I could ride and stroke the thong, cause it would take TWO hands, ya know!

I'll tell ya what's wrong with a yak fur thong.
When you're standin with excitement while movin along.
The yak hair a blowin and twistin whilst between your
Legs the wind is whistlin.
You will know what went wrong while later at home
While removing that yak hair thong.

Yep, been there, done that! Luckily, I found the money to fix my old clunker car about halfway through the winter. But it STILL didn't have a heater. Nothing like scraping off the ice on both the outside AND the INSIDE of a windshield while driving down the road. Snowsuit, thick gloves, STILL froze my nuts off! All to go see my girlfriend, who lived 20 miles out in the country. Married her years later. Later, I wished I HAD froze to death.

I can commiserate, I had a 63 VW bug that I ran illegally after riding year round for a couple years. That car blew cold air out if the left side ducts and the "defroster" vent right on my knuckles. Had to scrape ice inside and out on that one. Drove for years with a fake home made T tag. When that died I put the engine and trans out of a Porsche 914 in it that I got from a friend who had the 914 until it rotted so bad that the doors wouldn't close.

I used to do that all the time because I had to. I couldn't afford a car when I was young so I rode my bike year round.

Reminds me of the 10cc song,

After I put nitrogen in my tires yesterday,I went for a ride in a long sleeved t-shirt it was CHILLY! about 25 degrees[celsius]
Never mind.I'll be cold here when you guys are warm!

Or the Meat Loaf tune

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
