It's strange to hear of these marketing practices. I suppose the "corporate brainiacs" at the top know what they're doing, but it sure doesn't seem like it from down here on the ground. I gotta wonder how Baxter Cycle has made it this long. He's the last "old school" type dealer I know who actually sells new Triumphs. And trust me, he is not the "megastore" kind of guy, and his showroom is, how would you say, "quaint". He's also, litterally, in the middle of nowhere, with his market base being at least 30 miles away in the big city of Des Moinse. My "new" local Triumph dealer is a lot closer, only an hour away. But even he is fairly small. But I don't see a new Trumpet coming my way anytime soon. Not till I get the Indian payed off, in four more years. THEN, I'm gonna look at a T100, cause by that time I might be tired of holdin the "big blue monster" up with my "old man" legs!
I would think Baxter Cycle could be an "exception" to the norm in this regard, Rich, and in so much as they're also one of the country's leading dealers of classic Brit iron.
(...btw, I talked to my friend Phil in CA yesterday, you might remember, the guy with about two dozen of THE most beautiful classic motorcycles in his stable, and he REALLY loved the new water-cooled T120 he saw at the Long Beach M/C show last month and he said he's going to get one as soon as they hit the dealer's showroom in his area...he also said he's going to have it custom painted to exactly match the factory paint on his '69 T120)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
