Some of us older ones remember, sadly new generations have not a clue.

I worked across from Pearl at Hickam in the early 70's. I can't forget.

Today is my son's birthday.

My family has a very decorated military history.

Today's politicians should learn from our history especially today.

Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it.

"Duty," "Honor," "Country"—those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be. They are your rallying points to build courage when courage seems to fail, to regain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith, to create hope when hope becomes forlorn.

General MacArthur

My grandma turned "8" on that day. She never could get over her anger that the Japs did this on her birthday!

I won't forget.
That event drew my Dad into mortal combat with Japanese soldiers.
My Dad won.

Every time a ship I was on would dock in Pearl Harbor we would render honors to the USS Arizona. A lot of us made a point of putting on our whites and manning the rail to be be part of that.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

It's not just the young who forget, half the retired guys around here are driving around in Hondas and Toyotas. The profits are going back to Japan no matter where the cars are bolted together.

Yeah, Mistsubishi manufactured the Japanese A6M Zero fighter planes. Think about that next time you see an Outlander or Galant driving around our streets.

Are you going to boycott Fiat, Mercedes and BMW too? That war is over and those descendants are our allies.

I'm not boycotting anyone. I'm just making an observation. But I lean toward buying American made whenever I can and that includes cars and trucks.

AND, don't forget the licking we had to give those "limeys" across the pond a few years back. TWICE!. Ya gotta let it go sometime, or where do ya stop? Even the Hatfields and McCoys offically buried the hatchet a while back.

Well since we sorta derailed here talkin about boycots and former enemies, I hooked up an ice machine for some VFW guys who REFUSED to have a Hoshizaki ice maker, so they got a USA made Manitowoc. Joke's on them 'cause nearly every internal component in that thing was from CHINA ! I think the shell may have been made in US.

Aaah, but lets remember here Wade that Chiang Kai-chek was one of our allies during the war in question here, and so maybe THAT would have made it "acceptable" for people who can't seem to let the freakin' past go, EH?!

(...and who SOMEHOW have the concept of "never FORGETTING the past" mixed the hell up with the concept of "never FORGIVING the past transgressions of others" and perhaps that whole "Sins of the Father" concept TOO!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Exactly sir !
I got me some American flags for my golf cart from a company in Pa. and upon unfurling those icons of patriotism, I notice the ubiquitous "made in China" label.
The only thing worse would be "hecho en China" !

I truly did not mean that as aggressive as it reads. Still, after the wars are over do we not at least try to move forward? Too often we lose sight of the fact that both sides are manned by brave soldiers fighting at their country's behest and not out of malice.

I gotta wonder. Are the same people who demand we forgive and forget concerning a war we got involved in 75 years ago making excuses for people who are still taking offense over things that happened 800 years ago?

You must have missed this area. I never got to that altitude but I've flown in the area at night and the difference is striking.

Well Larry, first of all and once again, there's a BIG ol' difference between "FORGETTING" and "FORGIVING"...the latter of which because you've always claimed to be a "good Christian", you ESPECIALLY should know something about, RIGHT?!

And secondly, and to answer your little question here, yeah, I suppose there's people out there who would be hypocritical enough to hold such a contradictory opinion in regard to The Crusades(I presume that that was what you were referencing here with your whole "800 years ago" thing, right?) and the participants of WWII, but I doubt when it comes right down to it that the people you seem to be referencing here by implication, namely the Muslims in the world, probably don't give a rat's ass about the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor and/or if perhaps we Yanks should have forgiven later generations of Japanese for this by now or not.

(...OH and btw and for the record, I'm personally of the opinion that ANYONE and REGARDLESS of whatever the hell religion someone says they are, IF they can't forgive, and once again THAT is a FAR different concept than "forgetting", then ya know WHAT? Well, their freakin' religion doesn't seem to be workin' too well for 'em to help make 'em a better person, now does it?!!!)

It's all about the rich getting richer, mostly by exploiting the poor. You may not have heard but now that China wages are starting to go up the corporations are looking into Africa for low wage locations for new factory labor. Lax pollution laws, no worker rights, yep thats the place to go.

Huh! They might as well. Africans aren't using the place anyways!
