It does look to be a single cam and I don't see adjusters either.I wonder if there is a shim on top of the valve or maybe the rocker shaft gets shimmed.

I keep saying there was nothing wrong with Lucas electrics, the harness was the weak point, once rewired they worked for a very long time. I have magnitos from the 50s still going strong, how many modern electrical components can lay claim to such longevity? I have Lucas 12v systems from the 60s still going strong too, again, how many modern components last that long? How many of our CDIs will be working without replacement in 50 years?

Pretty cut away engine, I think they omitted the buckets and shims to show the springs and stems. And that is a nice tip o' the hat to Amal with those throttle bodies. Do you really think you could kick start an fuel injected bike? I'm guessing you'd never get enough fuel pressure from the pump.

That depends, no, not with a completely dead battery but with a battery that is too low to crank but still run the pump, yes. Also Yes, if the starter is bad but battery is up or if a starter component is broken then again ,yes. If I couldn't kick start a FI bike I couldn't coast start it either and I have done that. I have also kick started a FI HD.

Simply, kick starters are COOL! And they have no trade off like other old technology. Carbs get out of adjustment, can't compensate for altitude, temp, etc. Points have limited RPM capabilities, they wear out and are less precise than electronic. But having a kick start lever on a bike just seems natural, necessary and flat out COOL!

Doesn't look too cool when something's out of whack and wont start with half a dozen kicks.

that is when the starter is nice. I owned kick only bikes most of my life and it can really suck when one is having an issue and you have to kick until you can't anymore trying to figure it out.

Sore legs are the price of admission for kickstarters. I'd still like to have the option added to the standard electric start. There's just something special about kicking your bike to life.

Yeah, kick starts are cool when all is OK, I've tossed a chainsaw or two out of a tree for not firing up after a dozen pulls. Hard to work on a saw at 60 + feet.

All the bikes I have owned and or rode, if it won't start by a kick or three, it wouldn't start with a electric starter either. Such as a fried Zener Diode, for instance.

I have been putting a list together for a tool kit and was thinking I need a pair of jumper cables. I would rather have a kick starter. My luck would be the first time I need a jump a Harley would stop.

True, I always tuned my own bikes and once warm always 1 kick to start, when cold 2 maybe 3. If they didn't start then I knew something needed attention. I remember being out on my chopper once and we were all about to leave and the damned thing wouldn't start. I beat my brains out trying to get it to fire. I had just had it running an hour or so earlier so it should have fired right up. Turned out part of my coil mount had broken and touched the coil post when I leaned it over when I parked it. When I stood it back up to start later it was still grounding out the ignition. As soon as I saw it I moved it and the bike fired right up and we were off.Was really embarrassing to me since I always prided myself on my bike starting with a single kick and teased those who didn't. Even worse is now because I also teased guys who didn't have a kick start about their girly button.

If these motors have a compression like the 1700's trying to kick start it might be a quick way to get your knee dislocated...your hip thrown out of joint...and for good measure you will be thrown over the handlebars...

Yeah but you don't look as stupid pressing the starter, as toppling off the bike in a lather of sweat from kicking it to no avail Ask me how I know!

I have kick started bigger displacement HDs with higher compression, had to stand along side it, get it against compression and jump on it while the bike was on it's kickstand.

There's always push starting.Done that many times back it the day for friends, and myself.Better with an incline to get some speed up. I've done it on reliable bikes,so as not to wake the neighbourhood while leaving some fair maidens place in the wee hours. Let it roll down a hill and bump start it. Ah memories!

I had to do that with the last two Triumphs I had before this one. With my busted right leg,I had to stand alongside to kick.PITA!

What I really do like is the finned header clamps, I only wished they had done that earlier.

That is just one of many styling ques taken from the old bikes of the 60s. The primary cover , timing cover, and throttle bodies all harken back to the older bikes. Looks like even the configuration of the fins on the head does too, probably trying to take away from that ugly radiator that will be on there to get the people who like the nostalgia of yeasteryear.

I just love the look of yesteryear, Harley does it and it 's not hurting their sales here in Australia.

Nice.What are they from?
I made them up. you have to grind off the top segment of the heat shield to fit them. But they fill in the gap between the head and header nicely.
