My bike was covered with bugs and some grime from the rain at the AR rally this past WE. I took it to get a rubber washer for my hose this afternoon because it was leaking. Gave the girl a good washing then took her for a ride to blow off the excess water. It just seem to run better clean or am I crazy? Don't answer that.

By removing the bugs you have increased the wind-flow efficiency thru the slipstream around the bike thus reducing turbulence. This results in improved aerodynamics causing the airflow to kiss your ass and push you farther down the road.

I knew there had to be a scientific explanation like that, Bill.

Chicks dig a clean bike, they get enthused about a guy that pays attention to detail, if you get my drift.

The opposite is true for adventure bikes. They run better when they are covered with mud, dirt, and grime. The only riders who even think about cleaning adventure bikes are the guys who use them to get back and forth to Starbucks, and not much else.

Don't forget they have to have both panniers AND the top box on. At all times. Regardless of the journey

Not sure of the clean thing but my America runs better if I have a Helmet on. I love the bike but the engine makes ugly noises (rattles/ticks).

I noticed that about your bike, Joe. It hasn't been washed since the 4th of July, has it?

Also, the reduced turbulence improves air flow through the cooling fins on all proper bikes that have proper fins.
