Using either pair of vacuum nipples will give the same results, a mnore stable idle and they also assist in balancing the vacuum between the carbs. At least in theory it sounds good.
But...I would recommend NOT to use the nipples nearest the motor, as they get a lot hotter from the head than the others at the carbs side of the rubber booties. I actually saw one guy had them all connected criss crossed. Seemed to run just fine too.
