I just put on a set of rear LED turn signals on the back and a set of regular turn signals(fork mounted) on the front.I did the quick wire job to check everything to see if i needed a load equalizer or not.The lights just stay on (both front and back)with no blinking. My question is,if i put on a load eq. will it solve the problem with having regular bulb lights on the front and LED`s on the back? Also where and how does a load eq. hook up in the wiring system? My weakest talent is wiring,so any help would be great! Is there any one type of load eq. that is best?

This is a long shot since I don't know if the stock flasher is an electromechanical or electronic gizmo . . . it may be that the LEDs don't draw enough current to trip the flasher?

Sounds like you may have a bigger issue than load here... if you replace a bulb with led's the indicators should blink at double speed and the load's there to slow it down. This happens because the flasher sees the led's as a blown bulb due to their low internal resistance.

Generally if they don't flash at all and either stay on or fail to light the flasher's blown and needs to be replaced. To check it, disconnect the led's on one side and wire a bulb in place instead and see if they go back to behaving normally.

If you need to replace the flasher unit get one that's "non load dependant" or is designed for led's - that way you don't have to worry about fitting a load resistor at all (in fact that's a better option even if the current flasher's ok, why stuff with the wiring any more than you have to?). They're not expensive and you can get them from any half-decent auto parts shop.

BTDT on this issue last month with my KLR650. I replaced first two and then all four with LEDs. I suggest you save yourself a lot of grief and pick up the Kisan turn signal canceling unit from Brent. It not only provides the niffty cancel function but has a non-load dependent electronic flasher built in. It can handle your LEDs.

One another note. On bikes like ours that use a single indicator bulb on the dash for both left and right turn signals, you often need a pair of diodes wired in line with that bulb to prevent voltage from leaking over between the left and right side. This is mandatory if you go with all 4 LED signals and might be needed in your case. However, you'll know because all four signals will flash together. You're not at that point yet. But if you do go with all LEDs down the road, here's a link to the diode circuit. It's easy to build.

it may be how you picked up your ground. i had to ground to the light bar in front and the license plate bracket in the rear for my silver bullets to work properly...

well i bought a LED flasher unit and am working on installing it.I hooked the ground up to the rear fender bolt, the red to the positive battery, and am now trying to figure out where in the heck to hook the green wire up at!!!!It says to hook it to the light or lights that you want to flash.I tried to tie into the dash turn indicator, doesn`t help.I tried to several differant places,no luck.I can take a jumper wire and hold it on the positive connections at all the turn lights and the lights flash just fine. When i turn on the signal at the handlebars the lights just come on and no flashing.Has anyone hooked up one of these units and can tell me where in the heck do i hook up the green wire so that it makes ALL the turn lights flash by using the switch on the handlebars.ANy help would be great, lost and dumbfounded in Indiana..........

I used a load equalizer when I added led's to my bike.
just used scotch locks ( quick crimps ) in the plate holder
to attach to the rear signals.
It does not matter that the led's were my front signals, as
long as you are in the signal circuit.

Triumph72,
Checkout Member Matt's Post. Wiring Diagram for the BA. It should be the same as the Speedmaster.

That wiring diagram's actually from a Bonneville... identical to the BA and SM though, apart from the lack of a driving lights connector... the fuse is there for the driving lights however.

Why make up 3 different wiring looms when one'll do for all 3 bikes, I guess.
