Main Goal New target: Successful young men and women (instead of baby boomers)
You could see that happening in the last couple of years' brochures and ads. Going after the hipster crowd and the likes.
The trouble when you are trying to follow fashion, is that fashion changes every year. At this time, everyone is telling me the hipster movement is dead. So, Triumph's target group has already moved on to something else . Which means that Triumph will need to adjust its products to fit the new fashion.
I can see that happening in the clothing business, where it's easy to come up and produce new things all the time, but coming up with a new motorcycle every year to attract the new crowd is just not possible.
They should be busy trying to regain the reputation they once had. You can see Indian is trying hard to do that now. Build and renew the reputation they had. Not trying to follow fashion.
Harley worked for many years trying to establish the "badazz" attitude of their rider, so they got the sales from all the riders and wannabe badazz out there.... which of course is a constant target for funny jokes coming from other riders!
It worked for Harley, and even though we pick on their wannabe riders, they got the sales they wanted. Through reputation.
Same applies to cars, computers, etc...
Following fashion, you will be popular for a year, then it will be a 20-year slump, until fashion comes around again... For one year.
I kinda like not being mainstream, and not fashionable.

You're right Jeff.Triumph was an expensive fad in Thailand a year or so back all the yuppie kids with rich Daddys had them .At the moment it's Ducatis, before Triumph it was Harley. I wonder where the Daddys get the money as the majority of the country is dirt poor?

Just looked up Craigslist Thailand. Looks like Honda dominates the motorcycle market there then maybe Kawasaki.

Have to say, Triumph are very successful here in UK....but mostly for the adventure bike style....very good bikes too...but the cruisers seem to be an afterthought...' Oh, we ought to do those too.' Sort of thing. The ads for TBAs for example show smart young things who wouldn't be seen dead on one....they'd do better to appeal to the more mature, left field sort of rider....stressing the heritage and continuation of the breed. They save this pitch for the standard Bonneville and it sells...but theres an awful lot of us who prefer cruiser style bikes and would be happy with the power and performance of the TBA.....but are put off by the squashed tank and sloppy muddy paintwork...and as for the wheels on the new Speedys...jeez they look like Honda Comstars from the seventies.....most of us from that era would ' rather eat worms than ride a jap bike'....'m not one of those but can see why they don't appeal. HD havent stuck an ugly tank on their bikes( OK,forget the bigger sporty tank) they concentrate on the classic look with useable reasonably reliable machines. The TBA can only sell by going back to its roots, not by pretending to be something its not...stick the old tank back on and spoked wheels and market the lineage properly if they want to sell it.... Rant over..... Al

The new Speedmaster mags are totally fugly, IMO. Triumph should do a upgrade option or something.

I must admit I don't mind the tank that much. You have to hide the injection system someplace. The wheels? As an old guy, I didn't love Honda rims in the 80s either.

They could just as easily have hidden the fuel pump in the old style tank. Not trying to be a Luddite here, but it just looked so much better...to my mind it looks like they sat an elephant on the tank to get it that new shape. It's ugly, ugly ugly...and its why I didn't buy a new TBA when I sold the last one..... Al

They could do anything they want with the tank and use an external pump in a notch molded into the air box.

Honda is God in Thailand Ron but 99% of Hondas are the 100cc type as are 99% of all bikes here.

I have the old better looking tank but it's only 16.5 litres.Put the efi stuff in and it'd cut it down more. There's times an extra couple of litres of fuel in the new shape would be handy as they did when they put the new shape on some carb.models.All in all though I prefer the old shape. They could have used the size and shape of the old pre-unit Triumph tanks to give form and function.

Question: Not to derail the thread, but would an external electric fuel pump remain cool enough? I haven't used an external pump since the seventies, but it was huge (auto) and still had heat issues. Seems like everybody sinks them in the tank for that reason (which really makes it a PITA). Just wondering.

They lost their way with the new speedy and America designs I think.Too "UJM" for the speedy and too "Harley wanna be" with the America. Oh well,I'd still stick with Triumph before another brand.

There are electric fuel pumps that are about the size of an inline fuel filter, they are even adjustable for pressure. Can't imagine they would be too complicated to plumb in

Triumph is a dying brand here in America. Sad really, they are such neat bikes.

Guzzi used an external fuel pump in their California's right up till I think, the Vintage model...so that'd be 2006( but I may be wrong on the year) Worked just fine. Al

Just always wondered about the cooling - since every OEM pump that I've dealt with has always been in-tank.

Hey, maybe if all the dealers get closed down, our used bikes will go up in value.

Maybe by the year 2055 if they still sell gasoline by then.

If they were kicking a$$ on the flat track and on road racing with factory teams as in days gone by it would help sales a lot.

My local Triumph Boutique seems to be doing just fine, Maybe the TBA sales have slowed but the ADV and Crotch rockets are picking up the slack. The new water cooled Bonnies are coming out soon with a reported 1100cc engine, that should liven things up a bit. More power is not really needed but the market wants it just on general principles.
