Well It reminded me of these, Fins, exhaust, granted the valve covers are not similar.

Sorry Stephen, but other than the thought that they're both vertical(or parallel) twin engines, I can at least see a NUMBER of differences between this older model Honda's engine and that of the coming new Triumph Bonneville's, and besides the thought you brought up regarding the different valve covers...the differences in THIS regard of course being the result of the Honda being a SOHC design and the new Triumph being a DOHC design. And once again, NOT to mention all those OTHER differences I've already mentioned to ya in this thread, such as the cylinder head finning on the Honda being flat sided, and whereas in true Triumph twin tradition the new Triumph cylinder heads being triangulated out, OR and as I also mentioned earlier, the bottom end cases looking quite a bit different from each other. AND, the thought that the timing side bottom end cases of the new Triumph have the classic Triumph "heart-shaped" cases TOO! Nope, sorry Stephen, but just like I kidded Ian back before HE had his little epiphany and has now apparently admitted HE now sees many a classic 1960s Triumph engine styling cue on these soon to come offerings by Mr. Bloor's boys and when I told Ian that he maybe needs to go have his eyesight checked, perhaps it's time you to go visit YOUR friendly neighborhood optometrist TOO! (...notice if you will the lack of the superfluous letter 'u' in the word 'neighborhood' here, ol' buddy)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That engine looks very much like a 60s twin has the old style look to the primary and the fake carb looks like a monoblock also looked like it may have an inspection cap on the cam cover to mimic the old rocker box. That big ugly radiator sucks though.
So Ian, it seems now that you've gotten a little better look at that new engine, you NOW seem to agree with me and when I disagreed with your comment made a few months ago that that engine 'looked like a Honda'.
So, is THAT pretty much what you're sayin' here?
(...yeah, I knew you'd see "the light of day" eventually)
I said the engine, the rest looks like some rice burner.

And THAT'S what we've been talkin' about here, Ian...the "heart" of ANY motorcycle...the ENGINE. And, from what I remember of our first discussion of these new Triumphs, I thought you at first said even the engine "looked like a "Honda" to you, didn't ya?
The rest of any motorcycle such as the bodywork is always something that can easily and inexpensively changed or modified ya know, pre- or post-production.
Though tell me, what exactly makes you think the rest of these new Triumphs makes 'em look like "rice burners"? The radiator maybe? I don't see that at all either. In fact, that one new coming model that Bloor's Boys apparently have misnamed a "Street Tracker" looks SO much like a Cafe Racer that might have been parked out in front of London's Ace Cafe back when they were still playing Cliff Richard records on the jukebox there and years before the Japanese would begin to dominate the motorcycle market, that I just can not see how you can say you think these new machines look like "rice burners".
Do me a favor here and compare the two following machines...

...and...

(...pretty similar, wouldn't ya say?...yep, seems I'm right AGAIN around here about somethin', huh!...NOT of course that I always "have to be right" about everything...it just usually turns out that way, THAT'S all!)

No, the Tbird engine looks like a Honda.

I know, that's an OIF bike, when Triumph started losing the look. All but 2 of my bikes are before OIF and one of them has fat bob tanks and a 6' British made girder on it. The other is a stock 72 T120v. Besides that I still see many things I like even less about the newer of the 2 you pictured.

I have seen the Light.. But in my defence I own up to not ever having owned an original, YET. It does look a bit like a Kawasaki though.

I've owned lots of Meriden Triumphs in the past and have to say that these latest spy shots suggest to me that Triumph finally got the engine profiles right...I am a big TBA fan but have always puzzled over why the timing side cover is that shape.....I want to grab it in both hands and twist it round till it looks like the upside down triangle it always should have been. Stick an1100 motor in the TBA frame and I'll never whinge again about a lack of oomph with a passenger and luggage. Bring it on! Al
I took the Road Less Travelled.
Now where the ****** am I?
