If I remember right the police report on Friar's accident said there were no other cars around him that caused the accident and he was in the far left commuter lane. So no, I do no think he was lane splitting. My "guess", is he looked up and saw the traffic stopped and locked his brakes up, like I did last fall. The brakes on the R-III classic were huge. Anti-lock brakes could have possibly saved his life. My next bike will have ABS.
