how many BA.com members are friends or hang-arounds of a so-called OMG? There are chapters of HAMC here in Saskatchewan (Regina and Saskatoon)...I've met a few of the members, and I'm getting to know them and letting them get to know me...there's a print of a 40-something Speed Twin on the wall of the local HA saloon that I presented as a gift. I've recently been invited to the clubhouse and I wear HA support gear and have support stickers on my bike. I like these guys, and I feel like I wanna be their friend...anybody know the song "Going to the Run?" (Golden Earring). I went to the HAMC bike show on the weekend, and they say hello to me and shake my hand...I like that. Anybody else?

Well, I dont know much about most outlaw motorcycle gangs.
I am reading a true story of an undercover ATF agent who infiltrated one of the most heinous of the OMG (Mongols) in 1998. Its called "Under and Alone" I think. Its a good read.
Based on what I know of the Mongols they are nothing but a criminal group of ex cons and drug runners, gun runners and violent types who would best be left alone or locked up.
They really cannot be called a motorcycle club at all but a "gang" just like the crips or bloods or any of the hispanic gangs in the barrios of East LA.
The process of becoming a full "patch" in the Mongols means proving yourself to the existing members by committing crimes and earning their trust as a "prospect." If a motorcycle gang exists for itself and for violence and illegal endeavors I'd have to say they are best left to their own devices as they give motorcylcing a bad name.
If a motorcycle club exists for the comaradierie of the sport and to further riding than that would seem fine. Once again if the primary purpose of and or to earn membership in a club requires one to be a party to illegal activities or violence than thats just wrong.

Just be careful Old Wolf. I would not let any of them "Get to Know me" too quickly. Trust works both ways.

I agree...while I only know a few of the members here, they are working guys with families and jobs and businesses...they are continuously harassed (unfairly and in some cases even unjustifiably IMO) by the local law enforcement agencies simply for being members of a club that is a designated 'OMG'...some cities are even making it ILLEGAL to wear support gear, let alone colours! I have a real problem with that...it stomps all over our right to freedom of association and freedom of expression. I know there are bad HA members, and maybe some chapters may be involved in 'questionable activities'...there are bad bikers who aren't members of OMG's, too...there are bad cops, which IMO is worse, crooked judges and lawyers and CEO's...but guilt by association is just wrong...I've seen the videos, and I'm sure you have, too, of clean-cut kids on their 200 HP sport bikes, ripping in and out of traffic on a busy freeway at speeds up to 150mph or even more...IMO this does more damage to the image of motorcyclists, and poses more dangers than a group of HA's on a ride...

When I was a kid, some HA's lived down the block. The guy had his own business, HVAC IIRC. Helped out my stepdad(definite NON-biker) a couple of times. The neighborhood was always pretty quiet, between him and his friends and the police, it wasn't a bad place to live.
It seems that THE Outlaws have a pretty strong following in this area now and I have met several at various swap meets and gatherings. SOS they always want to talk about my Triumph. Even met one that had to be 60+ that claimed he had two HD's, an Adventurer, and a Speedtriple.

David - Most successful criminals have good/legitimate jobs and families - it hides the seamier side of their personality. I don't know about Canadian chapters, but the OMG's here usually have the purpose of promoting some criminal enterprise - they are more like what we used to call the Mob. They are usually a syndicate, with a criminal purpose; drugs, money laundering, illegal gun trade, "white" slavery, etc. They can seem like really nice dudes, but be cautious - I find most of them very scary to be honest. I just tend to stay away from them when they are around at the same MC functions I'm at. With that said, I plan to go the Laughlin River Run this weekend, which is supposedly very rich in OMG. B

Becky,
Ahem ... does that include people in the legal profession? (Just kidding)

Just be careful. A lot of the 'clubs' require you to sign over ownership of your bike and other posessions to the 'club' leader. If that is suggested - run.

Bedouin -
I'm shocked I say.....shocked..... My legal profession is such that I put criminals AWAY - I try very hard not to associate with them. (kidding you back! ) Oh, wait....you were implying that I was a successful criminal!!! Gee, thanks! Becky (Man, I now even get it from over seas....not just from my buds locally!)

Becky,
What you say certainly has some truth to it...there are certain "OMG's" that are notorious for real bad sh!t...Mongols, Bandidos, Comancheros come to mind...if you get a turf war going (esp. in certain geographical areas like Ontario or Quebec ie the Rock Machine and The Angels) bad stuff can happen...but I don't believe it's the rule...there are bad people in the world...and some of them are bikers, whether or not they ride with a club, and some are cops, judges, lawyers, (no offense intended)...and there are good people in the world...and some of them are "outlaw" bikers...sweeping generalizations can be very dangerous in a freedom-worshipping society...personally, I'd rather see more legislation dealing with child molestation and murder than the so-called anti-biker legislation...for interests sake, check out BACA, if you don't know the organization...real good stuff, there...I've had some real disappointing experiences with John Law...I'd rather have a biker at my back than a cop on the phone, to paraphrase a saying...

thanks, Rich...I'll stay on my toes...this is all just kicking a can around at this point anyway...quite probably won't go anywhere...I'm just a guy on a Triumph who goes to some of the bike shows and on some of the runs and likes the occassional beer at the saloon...

Does this outfit actually do a detailed background check on prospects or hang arounds?
In the true story by an alcohol, tobacco and firearms agent who went undercover in the Mongols they actually do a very detailed "check" in efforts to uncover any undercover efforts that would lead to law enforcment busting them and sending lots of them to the hoosegow.
In Bill Queens book "Under and Alone" the picture he paints of Mongol members is to say the least not flattering.
Basically just a bunch of murdering gangsters with a misplaced sense of duty to their gang. The use of methamphetamine and a predilection towards "tweakerdom" seems prevalent in the Mongols. spending all their time drinking and doing lines of crank to stay up all the time seems to be the norm.
But the Mongols appear to be "worst case" in the world of OMG.

I have friends in the Warlocks, Armed Forces, and Military Vets clubs. All are nice enough guys, but like most people, ya don't want to cross them, because the payback is usually more than you can afford. My good friend and I are of the same opinion about patching. We both were in the military, and that was enough years spent doing what somebody told us to do without question. I am now free to tell any, more than deserving, SOB to go fornicate himself. I won't give that right up anymore. Keep the change from those two pennies! later, Tom.
But, what do I know?
