Its time for new chain and sprockets. I took a ride to the new Greensboro dealer Sat am. Nice folks and offered demo rides on anything in the showroom, so decided to support local business and get OEM parts there. The first kit they pulled for the Speedmaster had 18 front and 42 rear sprockets. I requested 17 tooth front, and he pulled a kit for the America. This kit looked fine there: labeled as 17/42 sprockets with chain, front sprocket washer and rivet link included. Got it home, and realized the rear sprocket was 43 tooth. In one place the box label said 42 and in another the label said 43; odd, but decided to just go with it.

Well, broke the old chain and got rear wheel off and the holes in the 43 tooth sprocket don't match up with the mounting bolts on the wheel. They're close, but no match. Shop was already closed and also closed Sun and Mon, so will contact them tomorrrorow. I'm just wondering, does anyone know if the sprocket mounting bolts were different on the America spoked wheels vs. Speedmaster wheels (mine is an '05)? Or maybe this kit is for the newer models and it's changed on the newer models maybe?

It's been beautiful here this weekend, so took the old Daytona out for a few runs to burn off the dust. I had forgotten how much fun that bike can be.

Thanks,
Will

Bolt patterns are the same BA to SM but the Bonnie is different.

Thanks Ian; sounds right. This afternoon I researched the part numbers listed on the box; the kit no. matches the America chain/sprocket kit, but the rear sprocket in this kit was changed to a Thruxton 43 tooth sprocket. Thruxton bolt pattern is probably same as Bonneville.
Thanks,
Will
