Well, I know that we have discussed how this filter no longer fits our bikes. I changed my oil with this filter about two weeks before the thread on it went up over on the Rat site. I figured that maybe I got lucky and got one of the old concave style ones since I didn't have an oil leak. Well I will be damned if I didn't walk into the garage Saturday morning and there was a leak on the floor. It was coming from the base of the filter. I drained the oil, tried to save as much as I could and that didn't go so well, and when I pulled the filter sure enough it was the new convex style. Replaced it with a Mobil 1 M108 that was on sale for $8.99 at the local Meijer. Dang, I really liked those Pure Ones , it sucks they no longer fit our bikes.

I can recommend Mahle OC 575 from Amazon...buy enough for free shipping & you are good to go.

Well dang, I just did an o/c on both bikes with the 14612 with no issues at all. I forgot to look and see if they were convex or concave though. Could be that the same part number has different mounting plates.

Changing the subject, recent talk about filters getting rock dings and punctures and aluminum protective sleeves, etc. made me think. What about coating the thing with that black spray-on bed liner for P/U trucks ? That stuff is tuff. It also comes in a can and sometimes called trunk liner. Also would double as an easy grip to spin it down. Think about it.

Peyote makes me sit and think.

Jake,
Just an FYI, you don’t need to drain your oil to remove your oil filter. You will only lose the oil which is in the filter and the little bit which normally comes out when you change your filter.

Looks like a good filter ( Mahle ) may get two and tear one down and see inside. Ebay has them, OC 575 , for around 9.00

I wonder what the OEM looks like inside compared to the Mahle which is impressive IMHO?

I have always used these filters with no problem but why take a chance. I had 2 in my saddlebags that I forgot about and returned them. Not sure which one they were. Thanks for posting this and reminding me.

Dang, I wish that I would have known that before hand.
