I remember people blowing horns and dancing in the streets. Not much traffic to hold up because gas was still rationed.
Then my stuff was sold or given away and we moved to the west coast to follow the war because my father's ship was moved to the Pacific.
I notice there is no mention of the roll played by the Merchant Marine. Without them, the UK would have not been able to hold out, the Russians would have not had the supplies to beat back the Nazi invasion etc.
Those guys exhibited extreme courage crossing the ocean in slow moving unarmed or lightly armed ships, many made with new untested technology.
