it would seem that how comfortable a bike was, is largely dependent on how well the bike fits you personally. Given the wide range of body types, one size is not likely to fit all.
The majority of riders do not do anything to adjust their bikes to fit them, so they are not happy, but just live with it. Or they change brands/models until they stumble upon one that fits.
