Does a 3.5" rim fit ok with no mods? Anyone here running one?

You may have to remove the center indentations on your fender bracket that is adjacent to your forks, that alone will give you the extra side clearance to go wider. I have run 130/90-17s and 140/80-17s by doing only that. With a 18" fat tires, you will probably have to add some extension plates as well, to clear the increase in diameter you will inevitably get. The extension plates are easy to fabricate and in the vault section of the forum and was posted by Keith awhile back. If you aren't clear as to what I mean about the cut out for extra side clearance, I can take a picture in the morning and post it for you as I currently have my forks apart on one bike. Although running with no front fender negates all this work to go through and does look pretty cool, especially with an oversize front tire, the amount of extra gunk the front tire throws at you and the front half of the bike makes just too much sense to not remove the fender, to my way of thinking anyway.

A 4.25" rim will fit, so a 3.5 incher will fall in there with no issues. Any mods needed will have to do with fender bracket clearances as previously described above.

Not all tire brands are exactly the same dimensions, regardless of similar numbers. Different width rims effect that to a degree as well. I do not remember what size nomenclature Keith put on his early America, except that he was stuck going with the size to get the whitewall he had his heart set on, and he had to add his extension plates to get the tire to safely clear. I tried one of those Kenda Cruz tires, they wear well, but I found them kinda scary in the rain. Hard durometer compound?

I run a 130/70-18 Metz 880 on my 07 SM front rim, no issues. I would not go back to OEM.

A larger diameter front tire will change the geometry, all other things equal. My bike has longer rear shocks (currently +10mm longer than OEM), Ricor uo front with adjustable preload, and approx. 7mm of fork tube above the triple tree. It handles great.
