The cables go down to the carb linkage. On each cable at the linkage you will see a top and bottom nut on the cable...just loosen both nuts..but before you loosen the nuts look an measure how much exposed threads there are on the cable..this will give you an idea where to set the bottom nut on the new cable...at the handle bar there are adjustment nut and ferrule...back those off and the cable will be loose...disconnect at the throttle then at the carb....I don't remember but there MAY be some little brass thingies on the end of the cable that hook on to the throttle tube...just don't lose them they can fall off when you take the cable out of the throttle tube. (again I am not sure about the Triumph it has been a few years since I did this..they are on a Harley which I am working right now..)You can go a little longer that is ok..it will make the cables loop out farther from the handlebar..Mine do because I went from 12" to 8" apes..One trick would be route the cables on the left (stock side) and if you change to 14" route the cables on the right side. Also measure the 12" one then have someone hold a stick up at the 14" level then measure to there (14" level)...if you did the wire trick you could route the wire on the left then on the right to see how much longer you would have on the right side routing...When in stalling the cable start at the carb first..leave the nuts loose not tight they attach at the handlebar...
