Quote: I sold my T110 for a 1971 Tiger. The worst bike I've ever owned. The oil in the frame could have been a good idea if they hadn't made the bike so tall. The "breadbasket"tank and as you say the "tinware" and poor quality control was a death blow to Triumph. They discounted them very heavily here, but people still bought the 650 Yamahas and 750 Hondas in preference. The Z1 900 Kawasakis came in 1972 and they sold like hot cakes too.
I bought a brand new blue/white '71 Trophy and loved it. I had zero leaks, zero problems with the Lucas electrics. I thought the oil in the frame was a great idea and had no problem with the height. I rode the heck out of that thing all over western Pa. rain or shine. It was my first Triumph and second bike coming off a Yamaha RD350. I thought I was uber cool.
Mine had a small rocker cover leaks and a primary cover leak [more like "weeps" than leaks] soon after purchase as I remember. No electrical problems .It was in too tall for me though. I got a 1976 Bonnie 750 later .That was a GREAT bike!I wish I still had it and the T110 ,but I'd pass on that '71 Tiger.
