I have been toying with the idea of swapping my 05 TBA spoke wheels for some Speedy rims. I had an 04 TBA that when I bought it new I had this done and gained the double brakes in the front. I am thinking of powder coating/blacking out the bike and just wondered if everything is an even swap hardware wise. If anyone else has done it where there any complications and did you go with both brakes up front or only one?

The Speedmaster master for the twin rotors may be metered for a different delivered volume than the America master. A difference in the two could be verified if the factory part numbers differs, I would assume.

If you go for two brakes, you will need to get a speedmaster right lower fork leg as you will need the mounting lug which is not on the BA right leg.

Thanks. Looks like I will need to get the forks first when I start. Master cylinder stays the same. Unless someone has had problems with the America master on the Speedy double brakes. Thanks.

Why twin brakes?? other then looks, it doesn't help it stop any better, just resists fade from heat.
Life may begin at 30, but it gets really interesting around 150!

I have ridden both and you would have to ride very hard to experience fade on a single disc, I haven't. I have the dual disc on my speedy and like the look but that has been the only advantage to me. Either system will lock the front wheel thus max appliable force is available with single disc.

It is not about how the brake locks up..any brake single or dual will lock up..it is more about brake feel when you are coming in to the brake and braking harder to just before lock up...dual disc do a much better job of this...so as you come into a turn and bleeding off speed you don't want a brake that is "on/off"..it needs to have "feel" to it

I agree. My first BA had the doubles on it. That is the way i had it set up when purchased, and the one I have now just the single. To me it was a very noticeable change. At first it felt like I was never going to stop. Maybe now that I have gotten comfortable on it when I switch I will throw mself over the handlebars...lol

I don't know if you know this, but anyway, here it is! I find this website very usefull when looking for parts that might fit or not. It is www.worldoftriumph.com Under "parts" they have these exploded views of bike parts, with names, prices and numbers. One thing to remember is that the numbers are the shops own listingnumbers, not the Triumph ones. However, when clicking the item putting it into the basket, the Triumph number appears there!

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but it is related. Everyone knows that the Thunderbird Sport dual disc front wire wheel is a direct bolt in for the Speedmaster. My question is, what about the rear? The America wire wheel supply is drying up very quickly. Will the Thunderbird rear wire wheel bolt directly into the BA and SM?

The Tiger rear wheel is a direct swap but the front wire wheel is not.

Sorry about that folks! I only told you what I've been told, and I trusted the folks at CWC who used to make the wheels for Triumph. I might have misunderstood. ...happend before, you see. Ask my x-wife! ;-) ...any of them...
