Victory, Indian, the Slingshot and now Brammo. Looks like they're covering all bases. http://m.startribune.com/business/288762861.html

Great news. Polaris was invested in Brammo for a couple of years already so I kind of saw this coming.

Polaris has announced a new factory with up to 2000 jobs near Huntsville, AL. Maybe I'll see some electric bikes built in my area before long.

I gotta say, I love the internal combustion engine, with it's noise and shaking. But I would totally ride an electric bike. Same with an electric car. As long as it's cool looking. I'm always wondering if I'll live to see the end of gas engines propelling our machines around.

Probably not of course until those babies have at least a 300-400 mile range and can be totally recharged in less than 15 minutes, Rich. And, I got a feelin' you'll be sportin' a long white beard before that happens.
(...I could be wrong though...just think how far the idea of a portable phone has come in just a few decades, eh?!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Trouble is we will still have pollution, just move it to the power plants and land fills.

I'm thinking it will start to come around right quick. I need to see about a 200 mile range before I'm sold on the electric bike as a ccommuter or pleasure vehicle.

We'll always have a trade off of waste by-products when converting stored energy into electricity. The thing is, electricty can be made by utilizing other technologies beyond stored energy and that makes for an expanding field of sources so it's a natural path to follow.
Meanwhile, the instant torque of electric motors is addicting and once battery technology catches up it's going to be fun.

200 mile range gets me about 1/2 way through a Sunday ride.

Cool. Give me your 400 mile route in your neck of the woods. We're always up for a ride in NEPA.
