Had a chat yesterday with a newbie on a 2014 Streetglide, Bass boat Orange. Nice enough kid, I guess. Paid $24K, financed with HD for 8 years @ $459 a month = $44k and change. OMG. He's dropped it twice since April. He's put right at 10,000 mile on the clock, I'll give him credit for riding it and not shining it. I felt bad for the kid, I mean cant you get a 5 year loan at a Credit Union for about the same per month. 8 years, damn ! He told me how much he liked my bike and ask "who makes Triumph" I've never seen one before. I kid you not. I was on the Thunderbird and he was perplexed to find out the bird has a 104 displacement and the HD 103. He said yours is a little bit bigger than mine. Yeah kid I've been told that before.

Was it an Electra Ultra Classic? Thats about the only way to get to 24k with HD.
It looks like their rate is just under 8% for 72 mos. 6 years at about 400.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

That's a little worse than my Indian payment plan. 340 a month for eight years. But the plan is to sell a couple of my other toys this spring and get it down to owing 10 grand, and then I'll refinance with a local bank, who I've already talked to. If ya gonna PLAY with the big boys, ya gotta PAY like the big boys! ( I should mention here that Donald Trump, Warren Buffet and I regularly go camping together).

Guess I'm lucky since I have no desire for anything so over priced. I have always ridden Triumph and always will.

Thankfully all my vehicles are paid off. That kid will be paying $200-300 a month or more, just for interest the first few years of that loan.

I'm the same Ian.My friend has about A$60,000 into his 1340cc harley with 2 custom paint jobs over the years, motor big bore,bling,different seats, luggage,bars etc etc.Everything's got to be HD parts.
Sorta pisses him off when my, A$11,000[probably cost me $13-14,000 all up now with corbin and maintainence]America always draws more attention when we meet up.
Of course he could blow my bike away anytime, but I'm happily slowing down these days.VERY,VERY rarely I'll go over 140 KPH and not often over 130KPH.

true but not one of my other bikes cost me more than $600 to purchase. My Speedy is the most expensive bike I ever bought and that was a little steep at $5,000 with 700 miles on it and 1 1/2 years warranty left. Hermy hooked me up at the time, I went in looking for a new bike when he turned me on to it. The man who traded it in had too short of an inseam to ride it. He traded it for a standard Bonnie.
I did own a HD once, worth money now as it was a 1 year only bike but I sold it years ago. I bought it for $500 was last year pan first year Electroglide. It was someone elses worn out nightmare that was broken more than it was running, hated that bike.

Yep, my conservative alter ego, been there done that! I always, and for years, bought broken down junk and restored them, usually for around $500 or so. The only expensive bike I ever bought was my $4,000, slightly used BA. Then, a couple of years ago, I was in the lustful throes of wanting a new Royal Enfield, mostly cause of the old timey looks and simple technology, like the bikes I've always had. But I looked at one up close, and didn't think it was physically big enough for me, too small to tour on. And the reliability worried me. THEN, the new Indian came out and the sickness began. Thought about it night and day, talked myself out of it cause of the crazy cost. But THEN, we know the rest of the story. I was 56 years old, never had a new "anything", and my friends and family were dropping one after another. The clincher was that my wife's health got a little better and she said she thought she could ride on the Indian. (plus, she's a big girl) Keep workin on it, Ian ole buddy. Think about it. Look at the new bikes. Listen closely for that soft voice coming from a huge, new and shiny sickle...Listen Ian, can ya hear it call....ian, iiiiannn, IANNNN! Keep listening for it. You'll get there!!!

See I could drop that kind of cash and completely rebuild several of my old bikes and be happier.I wouldn't even drop that kind of cash on a 37 Speedtwin and that is my ultimate dream bike. Carb, kickstart, and points on a new bike and I might be tempted.....maybe.

If it didn't start, you could always kick it, point at it and siphon gas from the tank straight to the throttle body. That kinda fits your criteria.

It's a good thing I don't live any closer than the net. I'd be over at your house, giving you lil pushes! And Ian, again, I told myself the SAAAAAAME thing! I could have totally restored my 61 TRA, repaired my GT6 AND bought the wife a nice little econo car! (Honestly, the money still bugs me a little, in my lucid moments. Difference is I have what I want and do not desire anything new. Only bikes I lust after I will probably never have. I would like a 1937 Speedtwin and a 30s Knuckle but I can't afford either. Only other thing is I want to build a chopper like my 66 with a modern Triumph twin and I have been slowly collecting the parts to do it. I haven't decided if I am going to cut a stock frame or get an aftermarket frame and cut that. Either way I will cut it and make it my own otherwise it isn't a chopper.I recently got myself a plasma cutter and TIG welder I want to play with too.

Yep, I'm with ya on that one too. (I've always thought it was kinda eerie how similar we are. Well, except for your screwy political thinking! )I always thought there was one more ground up, custom bike build left in me. Custom frame, using a modern Triumph engine (BA), long swoopy fenders, but ridable. But truth is, I'm slowing way down on the mechanical tinkering. Not finding the ambition to tinker and wrench that I used to have. For years, I tinkered and built old cars and bikes in the summer and did fancy woodworking in the winter. The last few years, I've done little of either. My GT6 sits languishing in a shed, (Probably needs head work), my 48 Chrysler needs the tranny gone over (probably a simple fluid change) and my TR3A hasn't been started up in two years. I'm probably gonna sell my really cool Russian bike with sidecar, and there isn't a darn thing wrong with it. (other than being Russian) I'm running doooooown, it seems. Really bugs me. Don't feel the "spark", although I do love them all. And all of last year, I didn't spend hardly a single minute of my free time on anything but riding the crap out of the new Indian. Wracked up 11 K since June 21! Scary thing is, I remember the same thing happening to my Grandfather, who was also into machinery. He stopped wrenching after he reached his 60s, and spent all his free time on his hobby, Born Again Christianity.

The OL financed her anniversary Lowrider through them. Been paid off for some 3 or 4 months now and she is still trying to get the title from them.

Hard to say, those numbers will be all over the map depending on how people ride.
For example, I would be lucky to get 10K miles out of tires on my Visions, but we ride 2-up with a full load most of the time. And we ride hard. 
Some people swear they get 20K+ on the same Vision tires. 
I'm over 6K miles on the Indian Vintage tires and they still look good. I'll keep you posted.

+1 Quite surprising especially since Rich thinks it'll last until June, err another two or maybe three months of riding...
I bet getting a tire is going to be almost 3/5ths of a monthly loan payment though.

Well, I've been looking at rear tires. Needing a whitewall really limits your choice. A tire is gonna be around $200. I've done my own mounting for 25 years but I'm probably not gonna try the rear tire on this thing without first watching someone else do it. With the extensive fender skirts, it looks like a bear. Read a description online once about someone who had done it, though, and it didn't sound TOO bad. I'll bet my genuine Indian dealer would get at least $100 to do it, but I think my very competent, local cycle mechanic can do it, at probably less than $50. One complicating factor is getting the bike up off the wheel. I don't have a lift that will safely handle 800 pounds, and one has to be very careful where to place any jack, as there are various "things" in the way of lifting at the undercarriage. I'll figure it out eventually.

I'm with you on the old school look Rich. I added the visors and amber lens covers to the auxilliary lights for that look.
My rear whitewall was turning brown due to a Dunlop manufacturing flaw. It was replaced under warratnty after 5K+ miles. 
That being said, I hardly knew it was a defect and thought it was just due to my lack of cleaning.

Full retail list price for a 2014 Street Glide is only $20,399. So something doesn't add up.
He must have purchased the "bells & whistles" extended 7-year Harley warranty with wheel and tire roadhazard=$1,800 pre-paid dealer lifetime maintenance=$2,200 plus gap insurance and other crap and put Zero down payment.
If he got what he wanted and can handle the terms good for him might have been his dream bike and he didn't compromise. I know a few riders that bought what they wanted brand new 10-15 years ago and still own and ride their bike.

I know this adds up, $459.00 x 8 years = $44,064.00

I'm actually glad you brought this to my attention. It gives me incentive to get off my duff and sell some of my other toys to get out of the loan sooner.
