I only noticed this the other day when my wife brought a Hinckley Times home (she grew up near Hinckley and her parents still live there):

Perhaps we should have a run to one of their home games

Nice looking kit, just don't make me wear the shorts.

Refuse to wear blue? Too much like Chelsea blue?

Looking forward to the Derby this weekend...Arsenal v Tottenham. Gunners need a win if they want the Champion's League 4th spot. Big week of football for you, eh? Champions league match this past Wednesday, Tottenham this weekend, then the away leg of the CL on Tuesday.

Yes and no. There isnt much worse in this life then losing to the spuds. Its been a long time since its happend. Yes im looking forward to it, but im a little nervouse as well. Not nearly as nervous as i was on Wednesday. I have no finger nails left, and my nerves are shot.

Four weeks to go and the seasons over. Summer can be so depressing with out fottie. Least this year we have the little distraction of the world cup to keep us entertained.

Come on you GUNNERS!!!!!!!

For those of us that are completely unfamiliar with English football. Who are they? And why are they wearing shirts with the Triumph logo on it?

Football is extremely popular here, and is played at many diferent levels. To give you an idea of how popular, I live in a large village (population about 9000) and my local club runs about 16 teams, from 8 years old to adult (including 3 girls teams). All of our teams play in local (county) leagues. At this level it's all done on a financial shoestring, and no-one gets paid anything. Each team's kit is generally sponsored by local small businesses (i.e. they pay the club enough to buy the kit for the team) , and they get to have their name printed on the shirts. The kit is used until it's worn out, and then a new kit sponsor is sought.

As you move up the levels the teams become better (in theory), the grounds have beter facilities (again in theory) and are bigger, the players start to get paid, and sponsorship of the teams becomes more expensive. It's reckoned that Vodaphone (a cell phone company) pay Manchester United about £9m ($15m) a year to have their name on the shirts.

From the top down the English football structure is:

Premiership (Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea etc)
Championship
League 1
League 2
Conference
Conference North / South

Hinckley United are in the Conference North. In theory they could get promoted one step a year (if they finish in the top 2 or 3 of their league) and be playing in the Premiership in a few years time.

Triumph will have paid to get their name on the shirts, but how much I wouldn't like to say. I'd imagine that finances are tight at HUFC, as their average home attendance is about 500 people. I'd guess that their players are what is known as "semi-pros", i.e. they get paid to play but also have normal jobs.

So, it is structured almost like baseball here? You have Major Leauge baseball then underneath them you have all the minor leauge farm teams (AAA, AA, A, A short season)? Over here teams (from any professional/semi-professional sport) dont't get a sponsor from a single source. All of their revenue is generated by the ticket sales, advertising (in the stadium and programs), the wallet of the owner and sometimes tax subsidies. So, you do not see a companies name on athletes uniforms. The only sports that I can think of that do that are non-team sports like racing and golf.

Anyway, since Triumph is sponsoring Hinkley United. I suppose I could start to be a fan of them. I've got to figure out how to get one of those shirts! The team and Triumph would do very well to actually have a shopping cart on the team's web site.

Many thanks to those of you who have bought our shirts.
We'd love to see photos of you wearing them while out on your bikes. Send us a few words about the photo and we'll post the best on our web site (usual caveats).
Dave
P.S. Still looking good for promotion to the next level of that pyrimid!

I'd buy one if i didnt have to set up a pay pal to do it.
