I just read this today on the web. Long overdue but finally SRV is a 2015 inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I had the honor and pleasure seeing him preform in 1988 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and two other smell venues. He was one of the best guitarists that I personally saw. Each time I saw SRV I was amazed at his ability and stage presence. He could rock with the best guitarists in the world. The tragedy of his helicopter crash ended a short and brilliant career. Man he was awesome!!! SRV will always be on my top five list of guitarists that I have seen live. Here are my other four in no particular order Jimmy Page, B.B. King, Johnny Winter and Muddy Waters. Damn only 2 in my top 5 are still alive. Man I am getting old. No I am old. Well as Johnny Winter would say I'm still alive and well.

The R&R HOF is just a joke!! Bands that have absolutely no justification for being there are and some bands that should be are not?? It's such a bias org that I don't really pay any attention to what they are doing!! I am very happy that SRV has been inducted but because of the way they seem to be, I must say it suprises me . It seems if you don't suck the ass of the rolling stone rag you don't get in?? It's all I can figure. If someone could explain to me why the hell Grand Funk RR has not been inducted I surg would like to hear it!! There are to many bands/ people that are in that really don't belong and to many that do belong and are not??
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

In Austin, Tx on the south shore of what used to be called Town Lake is a statue of SRV. Nicely done and a great spot to view downtown Austin across the lake.
Story has it that some wannabe gang banger tagged the statue one night. The next day the city went nuts trying to find out who did it. The story concludes that the next morning said wannabe was found hanging from a tree in east Austin.
The moral is, Thou shall not mess with Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Great news for SRV, well deserved, but I gotta agree with Newt.

Yep, I'm not a fan of the HOF, but I am of SRV! And if you guys ever want to listen to another guy who shreds the guitar and make it look soooo easy, let me introduce you to the very famous (unfortunately, only in his own city) Jimmy James. He's the coolest cat, playing the blues and more, the nicest guy to meet and talk to on the street (I've had the privilege) and the best guitar player I've ever seen live. If you ever pass by Montreal, he often plays on some blues scene all year long, and a main act in the Jazz Festival almost every year. Here's a good one from Youtube, he starts ripping it after the 5 min mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otzb9ItwDPQ

This is a reply from a friend who does a blues program on Dawg FM on Sunday nights mostly about Canadian blues musicians. You can pick it up on internet.
Re: Jimmy James "He's still at it. Still in Montreal playing local gigs when he can get them. Hasn't changed. Saw him briefly in one of the after hours bars at Tremblant last summer. Take some acid and go see him! (Not my cup of tea)" So, I take it from that his guitar is still screaming.

Love SRV, and his brother ain't half bad either, with the Fab T-Birds... I've had XM Radio in my truck for years, usually on the NASCAR channel, College Sports channel, or one of the ESPNs - but I've grown VERY TIRED of paying to listen to advertising commercials. Classic Rock, and Deep Tracks were always my back-up stations, but I'm really not a HUGE fan of Pink Floyd, so being that they have (had?) their own channel, or at least a show slotted in at night - I rubbed me the wrong way when I would hear Pink Floyd on both Classic Rock, and Deep Tracks, at the same time. I like Grateful Dead, some, but again - they have their own channel, so why play them on CR or DTrks? So for a while now, all I'm on is B.B. King's Bluesville channel. Excellent. I saw Muddy Waters open for Eric Clapton, saw B.B. King a few yeas back at House of Blues. Discovered a Coon Ass named Tab Benoit on Pandora Radio recently, and created a new station from Tab - and I keep that humming all day long at the office. All kinds of great guitar players playing the blues.... Best ripper I've seen live, though, has been Monte Montgomery. Hands down. All acoustic, on an Alvarez repaired from hard playing so many times they named a model after him. But it's not your typical acoustic, to be sure - he'll rock your socks off and make you wonder why ANYONE needs an electric guitar. Amazing stuff, great live shows. Congrats to SRV, albeit years too late. Where WOULD he be now we're he to still be alive????

Asked why he’s not in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, Ted replies “I am unable to back off critical issues and play brain-dead politically correct games so that fools can continue their embarrassing denial of historical and current truth and evidence. Real music lovers increase their love for my music as my absolutism and ballsiness increases.”

That was pretty much what my reply was to the question , that he is to politically incorrect for the hall and prob was not in. I believe that is the same reason that Mark Farner and GFR have not been inducted along with several other deserving bands and artist! So yep that reassures my thinking that the h o f is just a joke and that if they don't like your opinions or your political slant you ain't in !! Sad because that shouldn't matter, if an artist produced something that made you think or that the masses enjoyed enough that they gained the kind of fame that Ted or others have then by all rights they should be in !!

There are plenty that should be in. Deep Purple, Yes, Steve Miller, ELP, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull just to name a few I can think of. It's like most awards, the best man doesn't always win. S h i t t y, but that's the cold facts.
