Just this morning I had the dreaded click after hitting the starter button. Too many short runs without enough recharge on the battery between cranks. Have previously done the wiring mod shortening the path from the battery to the r/r. Past experience says the battery voltage is probably at 12.4VDC, just below the ECU required 12.6VDC to engage the starter!
Just ordered a Ricks Motorsport Electric Hot Shot Series Rectifier/Regulator 10-004H myself.
FYI, the 10-004 is an OEM replacement and the 10-004H is the MOSFET upgrade.

edit: maybe a new (LiFePO4) battery is on the short list

How's your experience w/ The Mosfet unit? Was it basically a bolt-on replacement?

My experience is positive. I have better, more stable charging to the battery. Feel it was money well spent replacing something that was working, but just not good enough.
Yes, it is a direct replacement. Not all that hard to do yourself with just a little planning. Hope my pics and description in the http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=0#Post666536 thread made sense. I probably did more unnecessary work when I did mine but I learned! You just have to leave the rec/reg unattached from the frame when dealing with the wiring.

edit: only seems appropriate to edit this response and refer to the edit in my previous response
I did replace the battery with a Battery Source (Power Sonic?) equivalent battery less than a month after the rec/reg. That was 18 months/4,000 miles ago. Can't see the need for a higher $ lithium battery now.

Interesting. That rectifier/regulator is on my list now. I have a lithium battery that I bought at 4WO|Truck Parts & Motorcycle. Even though I have no issues with it, I don't want to get stranded so I'm thinking of upgrading the rec/reg.

Good upgrade, I got almost one more volt by getting a Mosfet reg. and a 10g mainlined wire. My volt gauge reads 15/15.3 now.
