I have read about cold weather starting with Lithium batteries. Everything I have read says to just turn the ignition on (so the lights and such are on), wait about 1 or 2 minutes and start the bike. Running the lights warms the battery up.
Lead Acid batteries have their own issues when starting in cold weather. Usually I found I had one or two tries at getting the bike started in very cold weather and then the lead acid battery was done. I found this out on the Tiger about 19 months after I got the bike on the Blue Ridge Parkway in later October 2009.
