Anyone here caught up in the flurry of snow out in NY? It can't be good for a lot of people!

Aah...now THIS reminds me of all those times Northwest Airlines would send this L.A. boy and one of NWA's Los Angeles-based liaisons with the TSA system to NWA's old Minneapolis headquarters for recurrent and updated security procedure training for a few days...IN JANUARY!!!

And I also remember every time I'd first step out of the MSP terminal each and every year in order to get on the shuttle bus and to my hotel, how'd I'd ALWAYS ask myself the following two questions:

HOW in the hell do you folks around here put up with this every freakin' year?

...and...

WHY in the hell do you folks around here put up with this every freakin' year???

(...I'm talkin' about the weather in that part of the country of course, as I always found the Eskimos..err I mean FOLKS who resided there very very nice, "doncha know"...yeah, "you BETCHA"!!!)

Did you ever see Renée Zellweger in "New In Town" where she plays a girl from Miami who goes to Minnesota in the winter and freezes to a halt as she steps out of the MSP airport? Great scene.

Back when I was in a P-3 squadron in Glenview north of Chicago we had gone to Barbers Point Hawaii for two weeks in January. We had a sailor there who was transferring to our squadron hitch a ride back with us. He had been born and raised in South Florida, gone to Great Lakes for boot camp in the summer, then to California and later Hawaii. We left Hawaii on Saturday evening with a temperature a little over eighty degrees. We landed in Glenview early on Sunday where it was minus seventeen, windy, and the ramp covered with bumpy ice. He literally could not make it down the ladder on his own or walk on the ice. We had to throw him in the luggage van to get him to the hanger about 100 yards away. The poor kid could not conceive of such cold. Was that you at MSP?

Nope...well OKAY, maybe the FIRST time I was sent there IN JANUARY anyway, Larry!!!

BUT after learning the trick of always walking on the snow as much as you can and avoiding the "shiny side" of sidewalks, I was pretty much "self-ambulatory" from then on out!

I left a job on an oil rig supply boat we'd taken to Trinidad, and went to Stockholm where it was -20 Celsius.
That was COLD. Thank the stars for central heating. My cowboy boots didn't cut it until I had them re-soled with winter tread.

We missed all the snow by about 30 miles. We just got a dusting and we are about 50 miles east of Buffalo. They really got pummeled though. I am sure BluesBass and the others are giving their snowblowers a serious workout this week. Ah yes, they got 4+ feet of global warming to deal with.

I love these weather threads, especially after being weaned in north central Wisconsin, coming to my senses & relocating to balmy NW Montana. Which truthfully is balmy when compared to the upper midwest

Pat do you ever communicate with BluesBass? Curious how the young man's doing.

I buy my clothing out of Buffalo, O'Connell's. Now I'm concerned about the residents' safety, but will the tie I ordered for Thanksgiving show up on time?

Yeah, well, like Des Moines Iowa is always a "balmy" locale in which to, say, play outdoor tennis, OR say, ride a motorcycle all year-round, like "a certain guy" I know who can do BOTH and who's located in beautiful Sedona Arizona!!!

In all seriousness, unfortunately there have been deaths attributed to the snowfall. I hope the grid holds up, especially if we have another winter like the last.

Well Mac, wouldn't ya think people who choose to live in an area where "The Polar Vortex"(otherwise and previously known as "NOVEMBER") hits 'em every freakin' year, that they might eventually come to the realization that blizzards can and often do contribute to an early demise?????

(..."in all seriousness", of course!) LOL

Temperatures predicted to be in the low teens (sorry mid fifies) by Monday. That sounds like a whole lot of another problem coming.

Well, if you might be talkin' about the possibility of flooding, Paul, I'm sure the folks out in California wouldn't mind if you folks up in THAT direction could somehow figure out a way get some of that H2O over in THEIR direction!

And come to think of it, even though our Monsoon Season here in Arizona this past late-Summer was recorded as being the third highest since records started being kept and thus helped a LITTLE with this whole drought thing the American Southwest has been experiencing, we HERE could probably use a little of that wet stuff OURSELVES in The Grand Canyon State.

(...just hopin' here that IF this can come about, it doesn't happen on either Mondays or Fridays...those are my tennis days, and ya can't really play on a wet court, ya know!)

Back when I lived there the natives were in snorkel parkas and mittens whenever it dropped below 55 degrees.

I heard that in the SW they are even asking people to drink their Whiskey "Neat" to help with the drought.

Drought, That looks like a superfluous U
