The BC Wildfire website updates a few times a day and I am watching it closely. For the fire near Nelson to actually hit the townsite, it would have to climb over some very large hills and hop a giant lake.
No one is being evacuated at this time. They are under alert and they are in the area between Sitkum Creek South and Willow Point (six mile road). That is on the 3A heading towards the ferry. At this time, that road is still open.
I have spoken directly with the hotel about this and it's a little smoky depending on the wind but everything is fine in Nelson.
IF there is an actual evacuation of that area, you simply take the Salmo pass out of Nelson instead. That area is not affected at all.
