As of the past few weeks (maybe months) I've been kicking around the thought of selling my Speedy, but I find it really hard to part with her but at the same time I'm not getting the enjoyment I used to. I think this stems from the majority of the time I ride it on my way to work and it's mainly highway/interstate, not so much is a completely boring hour but it's really uncomfortable. Actually I've always been kinda sore and stiff after a hour or so, maybe it the riding position, not sure. Low back hurts bad after awhile, and my left knee ( patellar tendonitis).

So I'm thinking what are my options, New seat? New bars? Floorboards? All that was done to the one I bought from Old Roadie. Well not the bars, but...

If I were to sell her, what to get, I'm thinking I'd really like the TEX but really can't afford one right now.

Disheartened.

i know how you are feeling brother, i just sold mine after a few years of allot of mods and finally getting it where i could ride and enjoy it all day, but i wanted a T-Bird so i pulled the trigger, there was a tear in my eye as it left down the lane on a bloody trailer no less! But then i got the tbird, and now i am , well this is cool! and i can sort of start over. For a back issue though i found the corbin solo seat, the speedmaster risers and the america bars to work the best for me, no problem sittin gon that sucker all day long.

good luck.....

A corbin seat did the trick for me. Before that I was in misery after only an hour's ride.

Back rest and floorboards.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Corbin seat and backrest? Worked for me on my America.

As for the knee, my right one's mashed.I just use an elastic pull on knee support and carry a folding walking stick.

Same thing happened to me this year. Usually, I get the "spring fever" and head out to ride as much and as early as I can. Didn't' have it this year, and it worried me, cause I've always loved riding. I putted around a little, not really enjoying it much. Then, after a bunch of planets aligned, I bought the new Indian. WHAMMO! I got it BACK!. After five years and a lot of miles on my America, I guess I had gotten bored with it. And there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It was one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Bottom line, maybe you just need a new ride, no matter how much you love your speedy. I was lucky, cause I found a good fella who loves Triumphs to buy it. I'm pretty sure he is gonna take care of the ole girl, and I think he's gonna enjoy it nearly as much as I did!

I think Ian nailed it. I was being a b!tch. I just needed to take a few ibuprofen for my back and knee. More throttle in the straightaways, and a shot of whiskey when I got home around 12:30 last night.

I still think I'd like a new seat. But not to sure about the Corbin, the one I dealt with before seemed kinda stiff to me. Anyway some kinda solo seat, that way I can use my luggage rack.
Maybe some floor board but I really think I could use some I highway pegs, but is there a way to put some on without dresser/crash bars.

I LOOKED AT THIS SEVERAL TIMES, I JUST DONT THINK THE AMERICA DESIGN ALLOWS FOR A COMFORTABLE SETUP FOR HIWAY PEGS., Unless you like the gyno position

Get a 04 Thruxton with clip-ons and rearsets, get up early and ride it hard on a short route for an hour. Then ride your Speedy/America, you'll think you're riding a Lincoln.

Who doesn't want a T-Bird? Well except Dwight, because of "fins".

In truth floorboards allow quite a bit of flexibility in position and they may help.

I had a mustang on a honda I had and it was great but according to their website they don't make them for speedy/america.Don't know why my answer is included in the quote

I had never thought of a 'proper' motorcycle as having boards - Not until I bought a bike that came equipped. I love them. They allow a level of flexibility that no seat could. That said and in my most humble opinion, a seat is a gamble. It could be what helps you - or - it could be just another seat that doesn't do anything and you'll regret it. If you opt for boards - you'll come to love them, even if they don't help your problem. But, my bet is they will, at the very least, help by providing the increased flexibility and movement in your seating position.

Have you considered swinging your legs to the back? I relocated the passenger pegs for an alternative riding position. Not really for commuting but for travel. Gives me a real change of position and can stay on the bike for many hours. Looks like this.

Still have the stock seat/saddle. It is so much more comfortable than the seat on my previous Bonneville!

I used to have a garage full of bikes, the boy killed one of my Triumphs leaving me with one. I have a Victory Kingpin.

The seating position bars and boards let me ride twice as long in comfort than the Triumph. Plus the America has beach bars where your speedy has the drag type bars. pulling you forward.

You can pick up a bigger bike with boards cheap. Why not have two. Pick up a bagger that is 6-7 years old with wider bars, boards, and bulk for the bumps. When I get off my big bike and get on the triumph it feels tiny and bouncy.

I just visited the shop and man oh man they are not kidding about that new seat for the Tbird! Its great!

Hey instead of getting new seat (cause I hate my corbin!) Why not get this stuff. Gell with memory foam and they sell the kits on E-bay. http://knoplace.com/Gel_Pad_Installation.html
or they will do it for you if you ship it to them
and you can find better bars at AHHH i always forget the place, not brit customs or new bonneville who is our other favorite guy???
