I need to get a new igniter unit for my 2006 America. After reading the reviews on the TTP Fire Starter I am thinking about going with the TTP. Cost is not that much of a factor with the TTP Fire Starter going for about 15% more including shipping. So the question is which of the units would you purchase? Hopefully a few of our members had both units and can give me some input on the pros and cons of each.

I was considering getting my stock unit reprogrammed but might go with the stage 2 Firestarter... I want to know if they can raise the rev limit on that to 9000 or if the only option is 8500. I am just not as happy with my ProCom unit as I thought I would be

Based on everything i have read and based on owning a TTP firestarter, i would go that route. YOu can ask them if they would raise the limit to 9k but for sure you get the 8500 out of the box, its a decent unit and can be mounted in other places other than under the tank. I know Marty has the stage 2 with his 904 and FCR carbs and likes the unit very much. Maybe PM him for his input.

I was interested in the stage one, I dont have a cam or anything yet and can get them anytime soon. I just can seem to find info on if they need a core if I get a stage one can it be reprogrammed when i get the other stuff. I sent them a Email and have never heard back.

No need for a core change unless you want your old unit reprogrammed. The Firestarter is a brand new igniter with a 2 year warranty. I had no problem with them returning my email it was answered in 2 days. Maybe try again to get a response.

Does anyone know what type of warranty that Pro Com offers?

I am looking to get a new CDI. Since this thread has been up for awhile and no updates, I was wondering if those of you are using the Firestarter are still happy with them. I have contacted them and am leaning that way, just wondering how they are working out for everyone. Any issues I need to know in advance?

LOL. Care to elaborate. Not doubting just seeking the info. How long have you been using it, and have you used the ProCom. I have come here seeking knowledge..

I spoke via email with the crew at TTP and they were pretty helpful. Seems i would need the stage 2.

Thanks

i have not used the procom only because of the concerns i have with them, seem to be a hit and miss, then there is the settings and all that, TTP comes right the first time plug and play, as well it can be mounted under the seat away from the heat and crap that builds up under the tank which for me was a great feature, add that to the work the TTP guys have done with these bikes, they know them well enough and i am yet to hear anything negative. When i put mine in (stage 1) it was night and day, reved higher and better, sounded better, idled better, i just really liked it, since sold the bike, but marty has the stage 2 on his and he likes his a good deal as well. i think the price is pretty close between the two as well is it not?

Thanks. Price seems to be a little higher for the Firestarter I believe. That is why I was asking for the input. When you relocated it, did you have to buy another wiring harness? If so where did you get it? I have heard that one of the concers people had was how close the originals are to the engine.

I should be getting my Firestarter soon. I had a Procom on my bike for a few years, never had a problem with it. It was nice to tinker with the maps on it, but I feel like I never got it dialed all the way in. I didn't really have the cold start issues that some seemed to have, but I did have to fiddle with the choke while cranking. I plan on doing a run on the dyno once it gets more Spring like here, although the comparison will only be to the stock unit since I never had one done with the Procom.

Thanks. I am not a great tinkererererer. I like to get on and go and not feel like there is a different setting I should be running. I am doing more of my own maintenance on this bike but would like to just plug and play this.

Thanks again for the info. I think i will probably order mine tomorrow.

Hey Road I forgot to ask, are you going to relocate it, or leave it in the same spot?

Just reread the post by EDM and it seems it should come
with enough cable tomake it under the seat. Great.

Comes with a long enough cable to mount the unit under the seat no problem at all. Its very nice having it away from all that heat and crap.

Just thought of something, i was running the freak kit with pods so i had tons of room under the seat, so something to think about , pretty sure it would just sit on the air box otherwise its not a very big piece.

these only came out last summer, myself and Marty in here got the very first two made under their banner, but others have had them under the original manufacturs name, they are good but they did not have TTP tune loaded in them. I am sure you are going to like it, you will actually feel the difference in the way the bike runs and sounds.

Well if the CDI turns out to be as good as the customer service, then I should have no problems. Mike over there was very helpful. I ordered it on Tuesday night it shipped yesterday hoping I will have it mid week. I want to get it running and try to get some time on the bike. Weather here has been terrible. Very cold, for us, and wet/icy. Time to ride!

Will it reach into the airbox?

Road/Oofty how long did it take to get to you? I ordered mine and saw that it started this way, but tracking ends when it was Dispatched to Chicago? Although the dates dont match. Just wondering how long yours took.

Chris,
Just google your tracking # and it will find it on the USPS tracking site and tell you where it is in the USA.
Mine is in Bethpage NY. You can wade through the Royal mail site and find it, I don't remember how I did it, but googling it is easier.

Thanks Snert. Very much appreciated. Says mine is preparing for shipment. Figured it would have been on its way by now. Especially since the RM says it ws dispatched to Chicago on the 13th. Patience is not one of my strong suits I am afraid.

Thanks again.

i have a 2006 Triumph America with the 904 kit, and sudco mikuni carbs flat back racing carbs from Bonneville performance and scepter pipes. what would you guys suggest? procom or firestarter? NOTE: i am very very anal about tweaking something so idk if being able to do that is a good thing or not.

I've had both the Procom and the Firestarter. Procom has nice giddy up but is fickle to start and dial in. The last one I had shat the bed, just would not start the bike any longer no matter what Voodoo I tried.

I've had the Firestarter on my 790 with no engine mods for about 600 miles so far. Pull the choke all the way out in the morning and hit the button, spins over hard and fires right up.
Runs well, no flat spots etc. I did need to adjust the idle somewhat and lean in the air mix screws as the bike smelled a bit rich.
Basically the Firestarter is plug and go with the longer wiring harness for relocation purposes.

TTP Firestarter would be my choice again.

My Procom is sitting right here beside me holding down a Home Depot receipt, the one with the survey thing on the bottom so's to win a 5,000.00 gift card. It went to Shiite as well, not my chances to win but the igniter.

I suggest the TTP 904/Option 2 for you. Plug it in and it works. No drama.
