I do only cause it gets warm in out little condo. We almost never have a need to run heat expect when it drops into the low 30s. If its a compressor fridge then you wouldn't want to use it for cooling anyway. From what Ive learned the compressor style fridges pull moisture form the air. The new(er) wine coolers are thermoelectric. They won't cool as low or as good and they are only good to a certain ration with the ambient temps.
There have been some folks that have converted non-working compressor style units into working humidors. Depending on size Ive seen either beads or active humidification systems and if temps rise then a cold pack at the bottom wrapped in a dish towel seem to be fine for those folks. Id say give it a shot. You got nothing to loose. Set it up and monitor it minus cigars for a week or two to see how it behaves.
