Saturday I went for a ride and the first 30 miles it ran fine. I jumped on interstate running 70 to 80 mph. I had to kick it up a notch to pass an semi. When I got to 85 the engine started cutting out. It went down to about 65 then kick back in to 70 or so. I got off interstate then continued my ride for another 60 miles with the engine running fine. I did get to open it up to about 70 on a few occasions but everything was good. Feeling confident on the return trip I hit interstate just to see if it would act up again. It did almost the same thing so I got in the slow lane again until I exited interstate. On the way home there was a fairly straight stretch of road and I sped up to about 80 again and it started cutting out. This has bothered me for the fast two days so today I took another ride. The engine was only getting up to 50 then it kicked in for a few miles then started cutting out again. When I comes to electrical issues I must admit I am out of my comfort zone. I can easily change what needs to be changed but the troubleshooting part I may have difficulty. I do not think that this is an fuel issue I have removed the hidden fuel filter and have an aftermarket on that is clear and no debris appears to be in it. I also checked my 3 month old battery and it read 12.6 off and running at 1300 rpms it read 13.5 so I don't think that this is an issue. I have read many post but not sure where to start. Please chime in with any questions, answers or some help to steer me in the right direction. Thanks all for your help.

After reading my post I realize that I forgot to say that I have an 06 America with AI removed and Tor with the Uni air filter. Fell like an idiot for not saying what year my bike was.

Odometer reading?
Usual suspects are ignition sensor, coils, plug wires, plugs, igniter.
Start with the plugs...how do they look?

I picked up the America used with 3500 miles about 5 months ago it now has 6500. The plugs was changed when I got it along with a new uni filter. I will check the plugs tomorrow before I go to work. Anything else should I check tomorrow? Thanks for the reply.

I had a chance this morning to do checking. One plug is not firing. I switched the wires and the left coil is not firing. Should I replace both coils or just the bad one. The dealer is $ 154 each is there another vendor who may have it cheaper? I did try testing the resistance but not sure if what I did was correct. Thanks for your input.

I advise you not to replace with OEM coils... they suck as you're finding out. I recommend Nology coils for half the price of OEM. You can get them from Eddy at fasteddysports.com

I have already ordered them. What in your opinion is bad with the wires?

After going to the magnecor website I have ordered a set of wires from them. I canceled the hotwires order. The magnecor set was cheaper hopefully they will work out good. I am still waiting for the delivery of my coils they haven't even shipped them yet. Starting to get the shakes I haven't rode in almost two weeks.

I received the magnecor spark plug wires. My first impression is that they are well made premium wires. They are probably twice the diameter of the stock wires. The quality appears to be excellent. Now if I can only get my coils I would be riding again.

Finally got the coils installed them along with the magnecor wires. At first I was getting intermittent spark from one of the coils and found that the positive wire was extremely loose. I bent the connector slightly and got good spark. Took my bike for a short ride and it ran good. Being lazy I didn't hook up the old coils to see if this was my original problem but I did save them in case I may need them in the future. Finally I can take my America for her exercise and get my therapy.
