About a month ago, August 10th, I suddenly felt a "cramp" in
the outer calve of my left leg. Excruciating pain. Toe-curling pain.

The next day, my foot and toes went numb.

I had an MRI done on August 4th, for a pain on the inside of my left knee, which usually was most notable after driving to or from work, or after sitting at my desk at he office for any length of time. It did not hurt as long as I was sitting, but hurt enough to cause me to limp when I stood up.

That started as far back as May or early June, and knowing I had not injured myself in any way, I ignored it well into July.

Well that MRI, (which followed an x-Ray of the knee, and another of the lower back) did not explain the new symptoms. (Once the "cramp" set in, I haven't experienced the initial pain to the inside of the knee since.)
So, I had another MRI done. Still no explanation.

Long story short - a myelogram, confirmed a ruptured disc, and a electromyograph confirmed an impinged peroneal nerve.

After 19 sleepless nights, we operated last Friday, and I came back home same day.

The nerve is still in repair - I still have numb toes and foot.

The nerve still hurts, especially after I get out and walk the block....necessary to heal the back, but my leg and foot hurt so bad again last night I again could not sleep.

This may take a while.

These things take time. Feels like forever, hang in there.

I know it doesn't help feeling better now, but it will...

Keith, ask your doctor to consider prescribing you this salve:
plo-gaba-diclofenac-lido 5-3-5% It has to be made up by a mixing Pharmacologist. It is basically a local Gabapentin dose, Gaba is one of the most effective drugs known to stifle nerve pain. I had a prescription for the pills, and they worked great, also turned me into a drooling zombie, with the salve I found the same pain relieving effectiveness, without the unwanted side effects. Good luck.

I have herniated L4-5. Just do what the doctors tell you. You will have better days. Good luck.

I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I feel you pain brother. I have had 3 back operations and can do pretty much anything I want now but still have a sore back when I over do it and my right foot stays numb.. I does take time to heal and hopefully soon the pain will ease. Do not try to over do and follow your doctors orders. I used a heating pad often after and it helped but I would ask your doctor if its ok. Hang in there it will get better.

I sure hope you and your pain and suffering soon depart from one another. Not easy going through that stuff.

So this mixture is like Votaren with an extra kick, diclofenic is the main ingredient in it. I had a inflamed tendon in a knee not long ago and rather then prescribing an anti inflammatory which one ingests my doctor said just pick up some Voltaren cream for local application. I think it helped.

Looking at my wife's Voltaren Gel, I see it's 1% diclofenac. I'll have to talk to her doc about this 5-3-5 formula. Thanks for that info Ryk.

And Keith, hang in there. Like Ron says, it'll get better.
