So I am riding home after work runing about 70 and all of a sudden my speedometer drops to 0 and my odometer and trip meter stop rolling. I assume it is just the cable but wondering if anyone has had same problem. I have checked the line up top at the speedometer housing and the gears seem fine. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue.

Mine fell hard to the high side. The plastic worm gear at the top of the cable failed.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Lost mine 2 wks ago in the same situation as Courcrew. Cable had snapped. I replaced it with an OEM Triumph cable from BikeBandits. Good as new. Previous posts describe cables from other bikes (e.g. Honda) that are compatible and possibly more robust.

Mine failed on my way to Fl couple years ago. Turned out to be the ears on the drive washer broke on the speedo drive. I rode my whole trip that way and it killed the drive too.

What year is your bike, Chris? The speedo on my '03 crapped out with the odometer still working. Replaced it with a digital.

Mine is an 05. Thats the thing I read some posts about speedos in another thread and most said that the Odo and Trip continued to work.
I have about 32500 miles on it. I bought it from Ramsound after totalling my 04. It had 45000 on it and I never had a problem. I hope it is just the cable.

Courcrew, I would say the simultaneous failure of the speedometer and both odometers does sound like cable, although you can't rule out total gear failure. I detached the cable from the front wheel and an 8" length of the inner screw drive fell out. I have a 2010 America (mech speedo) and at BikeBandit the cable is called:
CABLE, SPEEDO DRIVE 139087

Actually Brad, he did say his odometer kept on rolling, just as what happened to me. It was the instrument itself for me and my bike that failed.
Cinnamon Girl's speedo went wacky riding home from the 2008 Arkansas Rally in 30 degree temps. Been a while since she's been ridden,(Crap! October 2013...), but I ran her yesterday and thought, dang, she gets on the speed fast. Then I recalled how she reads 15mph fast. 5 mph while on her sidestand.
Dang, I like D&Ds!

Thanks all. Actually the Odo and trip both stopped rolling when the speedo died. I pulled the bottom connection to the wheel off and gave a little tug. Sure enough abot a 3 inch section came out. Looks like I need to order a cable. Thanks to all for their input.

Just a little update. Ordered the cable from Bike Bandit. It finally came in last Friday. Ordered on the 26th of Aug. Asked why it took so long they said one came in was broke/wrong part and had to wait for a replacement. Oh well. Got it on. Everything works like it is supposed to again.
Thanks for all the input.
