Posted the following in the Performance forum. Should be here. Opps!  Ok, HOT OFF THE PRESS, well for me it is! In the latest "Australian Motorcycle News" magazine there are a few articles on Triumphs. One very brief article in particular is about the TBA. It goes like this.... Meanwhile, another spy pic has revealed the next generation of Bonneville-based engines will include fuel injection. The America test mule was seen with this fuel pump tacked into the tank, with the throttle bodies hidden behind the riders leg. I tried to scan the photo from the magazine but NO GO. The picture shows a bloke on the TBA (bloody dirty TBA!) with a backyard welded "something" coming out of the side of the petrol tank (where some of you put those knee pads). Can't see much more'n that. Another article is a review of the TBA! Another one! Review I mean. Seems the TBA is still FRESH!  There is a spy pic of the Triumph 2007 Tiger. It will use the current speed tripple's 1050cc engine next year. Apparently!

Interesting, slightly disappointing (carbs are more "classic" and a he11 of a lot easier to work on), but no real surprise. Injectors do work better and require less maintenance. Could you tell anything about the engine size from the pic? Did it have a radiator on the front? Any sign of shaft drive?
Why wouldn't the pic scan? Did it come out with a mottled pattern over it? If so you need to use a "moire filter"... your scanning software should have entries (probably in the "advanced" section if you're on windoze) for magazine, newspaper, photo etc.

From what I understand (and I am no means a mechanical expert at all), it is easier to meet emission standards using a fuel injected motor rather than carbs. The same thing goes for water cooled motors vs air cooled.

I think fuel injection is MUCH easier to work on than carbs. Nothing ever needs adjusting on the throttle bodies, the fuel pump is trouble free on all my cars and bikes, and it's very easy and quick to change the fuel map if so desired. Engine runs better, more power, and more efficient.
Fuel injection is just better all the way around. And, it's much more compatible with BOOST!!!!!!!!!!

There are two things going for fuel injection. While a carburettor will give you a good average mixture, fuel injection (when it's working right anyway) recalculates the optimum mixture for each intake stroke. Fuel injection is complicated and mysterious, and most people won't attempt to retune it to make their engine run right.

An advantage to fuel injection is that it reduces performance enhancement from an art to a science. New electronic injection modules equal performance modification. No jets or screws or other guesstimates to work with. On the other hand, when it dies it's dead.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Well, I have two Triumphs and a Hayabusa with fuel injection. If they had carbs I know for sure I wouldn't own the Hayabusa because it takes away the ease to change the tune to enhance the turbo. One little step out of the proper A/F ratio while under boost, your all done.
The two Triumphs are equally easy to tune in no more than a few minutes. Adding the TOR pipe and loading the proper factory Triumph map that goes with it, makes the Daytona and S3 run about 30% better and faster. Again, it takes just a few (less than five) minutes to drastically change the tune. All it takes is a computer. No screws to turn, no gas to mess with, No jets and needles to mix and match, no bloody fingers. The 04 Bonny I used to have was a beotch to mess with those ancient carburetors and it was always a trial and error procedure. I won't even comment on my two classic Triumphs with the Amals.
Had two Buick Grand Nationals that were equally easy to tune with the sequential F/I. When you run the ragged edge with a turbo, F/I just makes sense.
I've had about 15 different vehicles with F/I and never had a problem with any of them.
I think some of you guys are stuck in "old wives tales" mode. I don't mean anything derrogatory with that statement. Mad`

I also think some people prefer the artform of tuning a carb as part of the experience, ya know? The EFI delivers real fast drastic results, but takes away the process. I mean it's like building a set of shelves from scratch as opposed to buying a set from the Depot. Same or similar results, sense of accomplishment, etc..

I posted a little while ago about this.
Triumph are definately looking at fuel injection for all their bikes in the near future.
All to do with the emission rubbish out there.
They are working on designing the unit to look like carbs for the purists.

A "factory map" will handle TOR's, but not your Bubs, Staintunes, ect! Good luck!
