Ohhhh, that explains the front page articles on the front of gossip rags I've been seeing as I check out the last couple of days. Nothing sells like Elvis! Read a couple of bio's of him. Came across as a real decent fella, who had occasional flashes of "being human". I liked him. Don't have any of his music around but I like his top 40 stuff I hear on the radio. And I liked his movies. I don't care what anybody says, he was a pretty good actor. Hollywood critics just hated the idea that a singer this good could act also, as it cut into their "serious acting accomplishments". Now, ya see singers cross over all the time.

My favorite Elvis story "I'm on your side, " Elvis told Nixon. Then the singer asked if he could have a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs" http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/when-elvis-met-nixon-69892425/?no-ist"With the federal narcotics badge, he [believed he] could legally enter any country both wearing guns and carrying any drugs he wished." Can't hate a guy for wanting international drug and firearms carry. I could retire in 6 months if... never mind Although I admire Elvis for a number of things, like bringing Blues to the masses, when it comes to finding an expert on narcotics, Nixon couldn't have chosen a better candidate.

Kid Galahad and King Creole were his best movies, IMO. Elvis tried to get out of his movie contracts, for he felt the scripts were beneath him, but Colonel Parker had him trapped contractually, so we got movies like Clambake, Worlds Fair, etc.

It is always told that Elvis was a super guy who has some very human failings, and I believe that. I don't understand the hype around his music because .....well.... I'm not a fan.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
